Topics Covered

The meeting was called to order at 8:32 a.m. by Mrs. Alfreida Joseph-Goins in Room 39 of Dorothy M. Wallace COPE Center.

In Attendance: Alfreida Joseph-Goins, Annette Burks-Grice, Constance Gilbert, Dr. Calvina Clay, Sarah Russell, Mildreca Robinson, Dr. Tarika Quinn, Dr. Angela Gayden, Joey McCall, Dr. Yvonne Parchment, Marilyn Morning, and Steven Spiegel.

Mrs. Joseph-Goins (EESAC Chair) introduced the new EESAC member, Mildreca Robinson (who replaced Ms. Karla Revere), and welcomed everyone back for the new school year.

Minutes of the May 24, 2016 meeting were read and approved with corrections.

New Business:

The position of EESAC Chair is up for election. A motion was made by Dr. Gayden for Mrs. Joseph-Goins to remain as EESAC Chair. It was seconded by Dr. Parchment. There were no objections by those members present.

All other positions remained filled by their current occupants.

The Chair began the review of the School Improvement Plan for the 2016-2017 school year.

Goal 1 – The school-wide goal for 2016-2017 school year is to increase student achievement by improving core instruction in all content areas.

Goal 2 – The goal for the 2016-2017 school year for the Early Warning Sign Indicators (EWS) is to increase overall school attendance and to reduce the number of truant students.

The AMOs set by the State of Florida for reading and math for 2016-2017 are:

• Reading – 52% of student accountability group will be proficient
• Math – 60% of student accountability group will be proficient

The Chair informed those present that beginning this school year Dorothy M. Wallace COPE Center will be a rated school. She then explained that the school improvement rating would identify an alternative school or ESE center school as having one of the following ratings:

• Commendable: a significant percentage of the students attending the school are making learning gains.
• Maintaining: a sufficient percentage of the students attending the school are making learning gains.
• Unsatisfactory: an insufficient percentage of the students attending the school are making learning gains.

Mrs. Grice explained in more detail about the new ratings and our school’s current rating.

Further information regarding these ratings can be found on the state website.

Mr. McCall asked if we have specific plans in place to help achieve these goals.

Dr. Clay spoke about the attendance plan that we have in place and Mrs. Joseph-Goins explained some of the specifics regarding attendance in our School Improvement Plan.

The new student members will be present at the next EESAC meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:01 a.m.
