Approval of minutes: Mrs. Robledo called the meeting to order at 8:15 a.m. The minutes from March 7, 2017, were reviewed and approved.

SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Plan (SIP). Mr. Rivers mentioned the Educational Excellence School Advisory Councils (EESACs) 2016-2017 End-Of-Year Reflection Process; further details will be discussed at the next EESAC meeting. Invitations to the awards ceremony will be sent via backpack this week. There will be minor changes to the awards assembly on May 24; only students receiving awards will attend.

Principal’s Message: Mrs. Stroleny began by discussing recent events. Testing for FSA, EOC, and NGSSS is underway. Ms. Castillo and her team have planned thoroughly to make it possible for teaching and learning to take place during this assessment period. Mrs. Requier has been hired as a new part-time French teacher to reduce class size. Mrs. Guevara, Spanish teacher, retired last Friday; Mrs. Gheza is taking over her classes. Mrs. Gomez and Mrs. Martinez are retiring at the end of this school year. We are looking for teachers to fill those positions. Dr. Cheryl Johnson, principal of Carver Elementary, is retiring this year. Friends of Carver was a big success, raising $12,000 for technology for Carver Middle. One parent, Mr. Garcia, made a substantial donation to PTSA to facilitate the purchase of new TV studio equipment. This is Teacher Appreciation Week: FEA is putting on a breakfast on May 3. Today we are assessing eighth-grade science (paper-based). The Advanced Placement (AP) Spanish Language and Culture examination also is taking place today. On May 4, seventh-grade Science Fair Night is at 5 p.m.; the General PTSA meeting is at 6 p.m. and elections will take place; interim progress reports go home. The AP German Language and Culture examination is on May 5. The Values Matter Superintendent Initiative recognition night is on May 8. The AP French Language and Culture examination is on May 9. Also on May 9, the City of Coral Gables will recognize Carver for the Labelfranc Education and Silver Stem Designation. The AP Italian Language and Culture examination is on May 10. There will be a faculty meeting on May 11 regarding the SIP and the closing of school. Also May 11, STEM Scholars will be recognized at Fairchild Tropical Garden. The Literacy Team meets on May 15. On May 16 the EESAC will meet; that evening is IS student orientation. The Student Council Convention is on May 17 with Student Council elections on May 18; IS Orientation also takes place. The Science Teacher of the Year Banquet is on May 19. Failure notices will be distributed on May 22; also taking place is the Theodore Gibson Oratorical Competition and the PTSA Teacher Appreciation luncheon. Isabel Yip is a district finalist for the Walter B. Arnold Jr. Hall of Fame and will attend the awards presentation on May 23. The French Theatre is on May 25. May 26 is jeans day. May 29 is the Memorial Day holiday. Scoliosis screening takes place on May 30 and 31. The end-of-year concert is on May 31. June 2 is Francophone Day and the High School Reunion for former Carver students who are now seniors. Early dismissal occurs on June 6,7, and 8. June 8 is the last day of school and the Eighth-grade Banquet. Mrs. Stroleny commended Mrs. Coto-Gonzalez for her work on the master schedule.

Open Forum: Dr. Garcia said that 99 students were awarded certificates in E-Cybermission. Teachers are being asked to help get kids to class, especially on days when the bells are off due to AP testing.

Adjournment: Mrs. Robledo adjourned the meeting at 8:55 a.m.
