II. Call to Order
a. Ms. Deanna Rodriguez, EESAC Chairperson, called the EESAC Committee meeting to order at 2:30pm on May 18, 2017, at International Studies Preparatory Academy at Gables (ISPA).
III. Roll Call – certain members were absent from the meeting.
IV. Approval of Minutes from April 5, 2017
a. Ms. Ledo made a motion to approve the minutes, and Ms. Bez seconded the motion.
b. Minutes from April 5, 2017 were approved unanimously.
V. School Improvement Plan 2016-2017
a. The 2016 – 2017 SIP is being finalized.
b. The four targeted areas, academic, school leader, professional development, and school culture have all been fully implemented, except for one.
c. The area of professional development has been partially implemented.
d. Overview of targeted areas and goals for the 2017-2018 school year were also discussed.
e. Parents and teachers provided feedback as needed.
VI. Homework Awareness Campaign
a. Homework concerns brought up by parents, have brought about new policy procedures.
b. Students should have on average:
i. 30 minutes of homework in grades K-1
ii. 45 minutes of homework in grades 2-3
iii. 60 minutes of homework in grades 4-6
iv. 75 minutes of homework in grades 6-8
v. 120 minutes of homework in grades 9-12
c. Mr. Perez and Ms. Diaz will attend a workshop regarding homework policy for ISPA’s protocols and procedures.
d. Information will be discussed at the opening of schools meeting in August 2017.
VII. End of Year Activities
a. Senior College Signing Day was earlier today.
b. Awards and scholarships students earned were presented during event.
c. Students enjoyed a wonderful breakfast afterwards.
d. Orientation for Class of 2021 was Wednesday night, and was a great turn-out.
e. Students had a great orientation, having the opportunity to view their schedules, meet faculty and staff members, and tour the school.
f. ISPA’s first annual music show was a great success.
g. Upcoming events include: ISPA Artists on the Rise, End of Year trips to Epcot and Magic Kingdom, and End of Year Awards ceremony on May 31st.
VIII. General Information
a. Spring 2017 testing will begin April 17, 2017, upon return from Spring Break.
b. Testing is scheduled to end on May 17, 2017.
c. Final EESAC meeting for the 2016-2017 school year will be held in mid-May.
IX. PTSA Update
a. PTSA collects more than $1,000 in membership fees, at the Class of 2021 Orientation night.
X. New Business
a. ISPA placed 3rd in the Geography Bee and received 1st place at History Bee.
b. Students are on a waiting list for acceptance into the 2017-2018 school year.
c. We bid a fond farewell to Ms. Lusenti and Mr. Spiga, whose children will graduate this year.
XI. Adjournment
a. Ms. Martinez moved to adjourn the meeting and Ms. Diaz seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 3:10pm.
