Approval of minutes: Mrs. Stroleny called the meeting to order at 8:20 a.m. The minutes from May 2, 2017, were reviewed and approved.

SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Plan (SIP). Mr. Rivers discussed the End of Year Reflection process, which includes completing the Continuous Improvement Reflection Worksheet. The leadership team met with department chairpersons to review this document, which includes academic programs and support, school culture, professional development, and school leadership. Department chairpersons shared it with their departments. The leadership team then revised the document for the entire school; very few changes had to be made. It will be submitted today to the District but is not due until May 26. Mr. Rivers also reviewed the 2016-17 End-Of-Year (EOY) EESAC Assurances Checklist. There are 12 requirements identified on the checklist. By checking “completed” to each of the requirements, the school ensures that the EESAC was in compliance with the School Board Bylaws and Policy and State Statutes for the 2016-2017 school year. Some of the requirements include, but are not limited to the following: include, but are not limited to the following: holding at least four EESAC meetings yearly (we held nine this year), EESAC roster and bylaws must be reviewed, the 2016-17 SIP must be reviewed and approved, minutes must be approved and posted, the end-of-year SIP must be approved and reviewed, and the District must be notified of upcoming meetings in a timely manner.

Official business: The 2016-17 Continuous Improvement Reflection Worksheet was approved unanimously.

Principal’s Message: Mrs. Stroleny said for the third 9 weeks 130 students made the Principal’s Honor Roll and 108 of those attended the Principal’s Honor Roll luncheon on May 15. We are nearing the closing of school year and are preparing for next year, but teaching and learning will continue all year long. Mrs. Stroleny stressed that there are “no play days” if we are to maintain high standards and limit disciplinary issues; 66 percent of students will be coming back next year and we want to maintain high achievement patterns. Mrs. Stroleny also commented on compliance issues related to the SIP. She said that Ms. Castillo and the teachers did a phenomenal job of maintaining our testing environment while teaching continued; teachers went “above and beyond.” On May 9, the City of Coral Gables recognized Carver for the Labelfranc Education, Silver Stem Designation, and Magnet Schools of America designation. We are aiming for the Gold Designation this year, and Dr. Garcia is uploading documentation. Mr. Rivers, Mrs. Stroleny and a cadre of teachers will attend Synergy this summer. The three-day seminar aids in planning the school year and promotes professionalism and innovation, Mrs. Coto-Gonzalez is submitting documentation to the state for the Five Star Award.

Open Forum: Mrs. Daniels reported that the girls’ varsity and JV basketball teams are competing in the playoffs today. The golf team is competing in the county tournament on May 17. The tennis team placed third at the county finals. Mrs. Daniels emphasized that we stress the student-scholar concept. Carver’s History Bee team, sponsored by Mrs. Garcia, won the District championship. Dr. Garcia reported on the STEM Expo Gala at Fairchild Tropical Garden where three students represented Carver and were awarded trophies for their achievements. In addition, seven Carver students have been invited to participate in the prestigious Broadcom Challenge national science competition.
