Principal update - Ms. Prado

PERT- Miami-Dade College forms are being collected for dual enrollment.
Testing Season begins on April 17th. CCMS will continue on a regular bell schedule. There will only be a one day freeze.
Students report to class by 9:00 am
9:10 the tardy bell rings and teachers take attendance
The day before, via email, the students will be identified that will be testing that day.
At 9:20, the students who are going to be testing will be released from class after an announcement made by Mrs. Isla. They will report to their designated location on the 1st floor.

6th-grade orientation was successful. It was held on April 4th at 5:30 for incoming students. The parent’s concerns of safety and the transition from elementary to middle school was discussed. This orientation was the first of many. Parent tours are still happening daily.

Project Citizen - Our students participated in the Project Citizen competition. Unfortunately, we didn't win but it was a great experience.

Saturday Success Academy - Last week, 80 students attended.

Third-quarter Honor Roll recognition - 29 students were honored.
How can we increase that number?
Conduct grades are preventing students from making the honor roll.
Computer-based assignments - Some children don't have a computer or internet access at home.
Next year, The school will be opening at 7:30 am so that students have access to the labs to complete iReady assignments.

Prado has the list of all students failing as of the third quarter. Those 8th students are not allowed to go to Grad Venture at Island of Adventure. They are not able to be promoted to the 9th grade. Students who are 15 years old and not passing will be recommended to the S3C program. This program is not for ESOL students and if you have too many referrals they don’t admit you to the program.

A plan is being developed for Student Services in the upcoming school year to address the academic and social needs of students.
Gutierrez (Positive Behavior Coach) - How can we prevent students from being excluded from class?

More technology will be purchased with Title 1 funds.

Parent Portal - Parents can get an email when teachers update the gradebook. Parent Portal training happens through the Community Support Specialist, Ms. Perez.

Parent contact was being attempted to be made about a student who is banned from the gas station as a result of an incident. If they go again, they'll be arrested. Prado called the mom and would never get an answer. So a stop list was created to stop this child as soon as they come to school. Prado called on the land line again and still could not get the parent. Student called on her cell phone and was able to reach the mother immediately. It was discovered that the student had blocked the school's number from the parents’ cell phone.

Dads and Donuts - 25 to 30 parents were in attendance. This event was extremely successful. Mr. Fabal focused on the importance of communication using games such as the old school Newlywed Game with parents and students.

Honor roll students had a pizza party. 29 students were in attendance.

4th quarter Honor Roll grades will be pulled two weeks before the end of the semester. There will be a pizza party in their honor.

Data chat - We are projected to go up in all areas - ELA and Math.

Today, the monthly student leader meeting will take place. Chinese food will be served. A student artist will design the school shirt for next year. We will have them for the first week of school.

June 9th will be the 8th-grade promotion ceremony.
Students will be given two tickets.
