SIP Review/Action Plan Reviews/ Data Updates
2016-2017 Continuous Improvement Reflection Worksheet –
The Continuous Improvement Reflection Worksheet was provided to each grade level; one for reading and one for math. Teachers completed it during common planning time. This was the process used to solicit faculty input. The worksheet was used to reflect on our School Improvement Plan and start working on it for the next school year. We used the majority to create a combined reflection worksheet as a school. We used these worksheets to create a consensus of how the faculty felt about the implementation of the School Improvement Plan. The first section was Academic programs. The majority of the grade levels reflected that it was currently fully implemented through collaborative planning, push in assistance, iReady data, continuous common planning and Differentiated Instruction planning. The second section was School Culture. This was partially implemented. There were lots of positive things that we are doing in the school. There are also lots of things we are not able to control like parental involvement, and limited time to allow for teachers to present best practices. Thirdly, Professional Development was fully implemented through effective coaching, data chats and professional development needs surveys to meet teacher’s needs. The final section of the reflection was School Leadership. It was agreed as a staff that this is being fully implemented through daily walkthroughs, and the leadership consistently sitting in collaborative planning meetings.
This information was shared yesterday in our Faculty meeting and feedback was asked for. All faculty present in the meeting were in consensus of the 2016-2017 Continuous Improvement Reflection worksheet. Since consensus was reached now we are reviewing and completing the end of the year (EOY) EESAC Assurances Checklist. There are several different components and we are in compliance with all of them. (Riaz)

Are there any questions regarding the School Improvement plan / Action Plan Review or Data updates? (Quintero)

No (All)

-iReady-
We are still testing in reading. I have 3 students left from Ms. Pena’s kindergarten class, 2 from first grade and all of third grade. (Quintero)

It might be possible next week to finish up math iReady testing and we can proceed to finish up reading testing. (Riaz)

Our iReady proficiency scores for fourth grade are 44% in reading and 53% in math. In fifth grade, it is 44% in reading and 51% in math. We are looking to stay above 40% in both reading and math. The Tier 1 average for kindergarten is 86% in reading, in math we are still currently testing. The Tier 1 average in first grade is 66% in reading and 69% in math. In second grade we are at a Tier 1 average of 47% in reading and 54% in math. In third grade we are at a Tier 1 average of 68% in math and in reading we still have not begun testing. In fourth grade the Tier 1 average is 57% in reading and 60% in math. And finally in fifth grade Tier 1 average is 41% in reading and 60% in math. As a school we are looking at a 53% tier 1 average in reading and 63% in math. (Riaz)

FSA Weekly Assessments/Math Topic Assessments
In math we are currently done with our topic assessments so teachers are using the iReady teacher toolbox assessments for grades. (Riaz)

In reading we are still currently using the reading bi-weekly assessments and inputting them into the FSA school tracker on the cloud. (Quintero)

Monthly Instructional Focus-
We are currently ramping up for the next year. We are focusing on getting students ready for the next grade through rigorous instruction until the last day of school. (Riaz)

Professional Development Opportunities
Summer is the time for professional development! Many opportunities are being offered during the summer. (Riaz)

I have emailed all the teachers about the following professional development opportunities: Summer 2017 Face-To-Face Reading Endorsement courses, Project CRISS Informational Session, Digital Convergence Professional Development, 2017 Glazer and Lorton Writing Institute, University of Miami Summer Holocaust Teaching Institute (Only 5th grade teachers), Teachers of English Language Learners (ELL) Students with Disabilities (SWD) PD and the Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) Trainor Academy.
All these courses can be found on My Learning Plan. (Quintero)

RTI/Leadership Team
We are rolling off to next year. We have a large group of students from second grade that need assistance. We plan to target them next year. Third grade referred all retained students. Our focus right now is to identify gifted students. Hopefully they qualify for next year. (Riaz)

Do we have enough students for a full time gifted teacher? (Jerry)

We currently have 14 gifted students. We need 30 gifted students to have a full time gifted teacher. (Riaz)

A lot of children don’t qualify for gifted because of their IQ score but show gifted characteristics. (Welch)

I don’t think we will have 30 students by the beginning of the next school year. Some of the psychologists’ schedules have changed from 12 months to 10 months so it might be possible that they will not be able to test all the students in time. (Riaz)

Open Forum/Discussion-
School Operations- The last three days of school we will be dismissing all the students at 1:50pm. (Riaz).

Curriculum Issues-Is there any way we can take a different approach to placing students into Access Complex Text (ACT) Intervention that should really be in Foundational Skills (FS)? I have noticed it was very difficult for them to keep up with the ACT curriculum. Maybe we could find more available teachers to teach intervention. (Jerry)

ACT is using the same story taught during whole group instruction. The only difference is that the complexity level is two years below grade level. This was the best we could do because of time restraints. Dr. Riaz looked at all the possible teachers that could have taught intervention and this was the best we could do without our interventionists (Quintero)

Some kids are still struggling with the curriculum and there is only so much I can do. (Jerry)

We use the Spanish schedule to create our intervention schedule. The Educational Transformational Office (ETO) gives us funds to pay for intervention. If we use those funds up before testing, then we can use our funds to pay for interventionists until the end of the year. (Riaz)

Can we get some books for the children in enrichment next year for example “The Night of the Dawn”? (Moore)

We can look into it. (Riaz)

Can we also get more leveled readers for the intervention? It is still not benefiting the students having to share such a small amount of books. (Jerry)

We would like to purchase ACT books and journals for intervention next year. (Quintero)

We would love to thank Dr. Riaz for moving the school. I have been here a long time and you are really moving us in the right direction. Ms. Quintero is also such a great reading coach. We love you both. (Jerry)

Yes, Dr. Riaz is really moving this school and great places await you! (Welch)

Thank you (Dr. Riaz)

2017-2018 Homework Protocol
Please make sure we are assigning the correct amount of homework to the students. Kindergarten to first grade is 30 minutes, second to third grade 45 minutes and forth to fifth grade is 60 minutes a day. We need to make sure that we are not over assigning homework to the students. (Riaz)

Budget Reviews/Updates

The vending machine is coming back next school year. Other than that, budget wise everything is the same. We are currently low on enrollment but we anticipate to keep the same amount of teachers for next year. We have two teachers that are leaving the state and one that is leaving the county. If we stay a Tier 2 school, we have a level up on determining which teacher we could hire. If we move up to a Tier 1 school, we would not be able to hire anyone until the all the surplused teachers are placed. We would have no control over who we could hire. If you know anyone interested in transferring or new to the county, please advise them to contact me and go on teacher match to interview. We could hire the teacher as an hourly teacher with no pay and then when the next school year starts we could move them to a permanent position. We can try that with one teacher to assure we have a great replacement for next year. (Riaz)

Can the promethean boards be moved away from the opposite side of the windows? It is very difficult to see the board, even with the blinds. (Jerry)

We are waiting for the project managers to tell us how they will be remodeling the school. The Bond will ensure that the whole school is renovated to be friendlier. The rails will be removed from the windows and a wall will be replaced with a large window. Because of these renovations, the promethean boards may be moved. (Riaz)

Title I
Ms. Rosario received an award for all her contributions to the community. (Riaz)

New Business
No new business at this time. (Riaz)

Comments/ Concerns:

How many grades do we need to have in the gradebook? I currently have 6. I would be unaware what other things I can put in there since we are only putting FSA weekly assessments for reading. (Jerry)

That should be fine because of testing. You don’t need to put any more grades in the gradebook that aren’t FSA style for reading. (Riaz)

What classwork can be sent home? (Jerry)

All graded work should stay here. It is a best practice to keep everything put away just in case a parent wants to see their child grades over the summer. Differentiated Instruction work, reading journals, math journals, intervention work and any other things that have not been graded can go home. (Riaz)

I was always told if it’s in the gradebook, keep it! (Quintero)
