Verified EESAC Meeting Minutes

Approval of minutes: Mrs. Robledo called the meeting to order at 8:15 a.m. The minutes from October 24, 2017, were reviewed and approved.

SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Plan (SIP). The administrators continue to see progress towards our SIP as it relates to gathering data and vertical planning. Mr. Rivers shared information related to the 2017-2018 Initially Targeted and Initially Advised Schools for Attendance Boundaries. He informed the committee that there are “no initially targeted schools” in Central Region; there are “nine initially advised schools” in Central Region. The EESAC roster has been approved. Mr. Rivers shared the following testing information: i-Ready Diagnostic Test (AP2) is being administered (testing window is Dec. 1-22); Midyear Assessments for Algebra 1 and Geometry are being administered (testing window is Nov. 13 to Dec. 22). The District will participate in Take Our Sons and Daughters To Work on February 02, 2018.

Principal’s Message: Mrs. Stroleny discussed various recent and upcoming events. On Nov. 1, the language arts department presented Open Mic poetry night and a parent workshop. On Nov. 3, Carver presented its 30 Year Celebration. Mrs. Stroleny said it was a “big success” and especially commended Mrs. Moghani and Mrs. Coto-Gonzalez for their work. On Nov. 30, the celebration was presented to parents and Mrs. Stroleny called the evening event “amazing.” On Nov. 3, the Principal Today was Mr. John Garcia. FIPA Parents Night Out was also Nov. 3. On Nov. 6, Spanish authors Mr. Fesser and Mrs. Molina visited with students in the Spanish program; Mrs. Stroleny recognized Mrs. Galvez for organizing this event. On Nov. 8, eighth-grade families attended the High School Magnet Showcase. The PTSA met on Nov. 9. The Veteran's Day holiday was on Nov. 10. Science Fair Week started on Nov. 14 with Science Fair Night on Nov. 16. The Central Region Office Schools Showcase was on Nov. 14. On Nov. 20, guest speaker Franz Guesnet spoke in German, French, and Social Studies classes. On Nov. 21, sixth-graders participated in Spike-It-Up and snow cone sales. Eighth-graders took a field trip to Gables Senior High on Nov.21. Nov. 22 was a teacher planning day and began the Thanksgiving recess. Interim progress reports went home on Dec. 1. On Dec. 4. Mrs. Lambert Cinemagique presented a French workshop; the Literacy Team met and Mrs. Stroleny recognized Mrs. Mustelier and Mr. Hudson for “informative and helpful” presentations. On Dec. 8, the PTSA will hold a Jean Day Holiday Top fundraiser. Mrs. Harmon’s students will present the Holiday Concert Nutcracker on Dec. 12. Sixth-graders will participate in Project Sentry on Dec. 15; the German department will hold its Winterfest. On Dec. 22, seventh-graders will participate in Kick-It-Up and snow cone sales. Winter Recess ends Jan. 5. The next ESSAC meeting is scheduled for Jan. 9.

Open Forum: Mrs. Daniels reported that girls’ varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams are participating in the playoff semifinals today and the boys’ teams will participate on Dec. 7. She added that Carver has done well in all sports this year and embodies the role of scholar athletes. On Nov 18, Mrs. Robledo and Mrs. Winston presented at a workshop to train teachers and students for the AP foreign language exams. Miss Torras reported on an essay that students wrote after hearing a Spanish author. The Island of Adventure field trip for eighth-graders is on Jan. 19. Dr. Garcia reported that the Science Fair was a huge success with 14 projects and one research paper going to District. He called this one of our best years for variation of projects and said he expects some projects to quality for the state competition. He also reported that the visitation for STEM school designation is upcoming. Mrs. Fernandez said that the Hour of Code is taking place this week.
