Verified EESAC Meeting Minutes

Approval of minutes: Mrs. Robledo called the meeting to order at 8:20 a.m. The minutes from February 6, 2018, were reviewed and approved.

SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Plan (SIP). Mr. Rivers reported that the awards ceremony is on May 29. In keeping with the SIP focal point of vertical planning, math and science teachers have been working to prepare sixth-graders for Algebra and Physical Science. The parents of students who meet the criteria will receive letters soon.

Principal’s Message: Mrs. Stroleny welcomed all back from spring recess and reported on recent and upcoming events. Carver received the MSA School of Excellence award and was recognized at a School Board meeting. We have completed the National Blue Ribbon Schools application, which was submitted by Mr. Hudson prior to spring recess. We have reviewed and re-examined all safety protocols following District guidelines, including additional security staff, a parent workshop, school IDs, faculty training, site inspection, closing entrances, encouraging “see something say something,” and daily school police presence. Morning tutoring has been offered in mathematics, science, and language arts; from April 3-15, Mrs. Kelly is providing morning tutoring in Civics. Mrs. Harmon’s musical theatre students presented “Beauty and the Beast.” Zoe Diederich was a grand prize winner at State Science Fair. Paulina Almada is the Middle School Central Region winner for the Walter B. Arnold Youth Hall of Fame award. Paulina Almada also received the Scholastic Writing Award for her poem titled “Poison Ivy.” We are offering an opioid presentation for parents at 9:05 a.m. on April 6. The Superintendent's 5K race is on April 7. The GIPA Gala is April 7. FSA testing begins on April 16. On April 18, NJHS will hold its Induction Ceremony. The SIPA Gala is April 21. The PTSA meeting is at 8:30 a.m. on April 27. Interim Reports go home on May 4. Mrs. Pilz is Carver’s nominee for District Science Teacher of the Year, which will be announced on May 4. The AP Spanish exam is at 8 a.m. on May 8. There will be an IS parent /student meeting on May 8. The AP German exam is at 8 a.m. on May 11. The AP French exam is at noon on May 15. EESAC will meet on May 15. The AP Italian exam is at noon on May 16. Mrs. Stroleny discussed middle school redesign.

Open Forum: Mrs. Robledo reported that Arianna Boffill participated in an event with Univision on March 23 as Carver’s student representative. Mr. Rivers reported that he is leading a faculty team in the Mercedes Benz Corporate Run on April 26. Mrs. Daniels reported that the boys’ varsity track team is county champion and the junior varsity finished second; the girls’ junior varsity finished third and the varsity was seventh. Darren McQueen was most outstanding athlete at two meets this season. Golf, basketball and tennis seasons are ongoing. Mrs. Toledo reported that she attended a workshop for 3D printing and design. Technology students are taking Microsoft specialist exams. All 41 students passed the exam for Word, and they will take exams for PowerPoint and Excel. Dr. Garcia reported on the Regional Science and Engineering Fair in Lakeland over spring break. Brock Norman took third place in physics and astronomy and worked with NASA scientists. Zoe Diederich took first place in environmental engineering for a project involving waterfalls and FPL canals after meeting with the CEO of FPL; she received $700 and was one of four grand prize winners. She also received the American Society of Engineers Florida Award and is a candidate for the Broadcom Award. Parent Science Fair Night for seventh-grade parents is at 5:30 p.m. on May 10. We are in the final stages of the STEAM School Designation process. Mrs. Fernandez reported that the math team won first place at the District SECME competition.
