Goals, Strategies and Action Plan
The goal we are currently working on is assessment: To provide guidance and instruction on the various state mandated assessments all students must take in grades k-5. -Riaz
iReady
The third iReady diagnostic window is from May 7th to June 1st. This third assessment is optional for students who tested at grade level in the first diagnostic assessment but we have decided to administer it to all the students. This way we have the most current data for teachers to prepare for the next school year. The fourth and fifth grade classes will take their test in their classrooms with their laptop carts during their regular schedule. This is something the students are used to doing so it should run smoothly. Third grade will test the next day after we receive the Florida Standards Assessments. -Riaz
Math Topic Assessments
We are currently working on the getting ready for the next grade series and CPALMS lessons. Today during the second-grade math common planning meeting we were determining what standards to remediate during differentiated instruction since the students are completing the whole group lessons efficiently. We used PowerBI to analyze the data and I noticed that second grade averaged 93% proficiency in math as a grade level. They only had one standard below 60%. So, I wanted to congratulate second grade on doing such a phenomenal job. -Riaz
I want to thank Ms. Hampton for helping us reach that goal. She is thorough with each lesson and will notice patterns in the student’s deficiencies and find ways to remediate them immediately. She shares this information with us. She is worth every cent! - Hernandez
Kudos to Ms. Picon and to you to Ms. Hernandez because it is a team effort! -Quintero
Thank you, Ms. Quintero! - Hernandez
I also want to formally thank first grade for working so diligently with the children last year. The students came in ready for the second grade in math and reading. I feel like I can speak to the children at a fourth-grade level and they understand me! This has been a different experience for me! - Hernandez
Thank you for saying that! We really appreciate it! -Moore
FSA Weekly Assessments
Today the fourth grade took the practice computer based test in English Language Arts and tomorrow they will take the practice computer based test in mathematics. -Quintero
We are doing this to prepare the students for testing so they will be familiar with the format of the tests and feel confident when taking them. -Riaz
Mr. Snipes has been very quick and effective in taking care of the glitches we have had during practice testing. -Jerry
He is amazing. He always does a great job making sure we have everything working as best as he can! -Hernandez
I wanted to know if the bond would include replacing the ethernet jacks? -Moore
I don’t know the exact details of the bond but I have been told that it is a future goal to fix the rewiring. A cost-effective way to fix the problem is to install wireless internet adapter cards on the computers since we have strong wifi here. -Riaz
Monthly Instructional Focus
Third grade has completed the instructional focus calendars for reading and math since they finished testing this week. Fifth grade will complete their IFC next week and fourth grade will complete them in May. -Quintero
Professional Development Opportunities
The 2018 Glazer and Lorton writing Institute will take place June 18-29 this year. It is from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.-Quintero
This was a great opportunity. I learned to teach writing better and earned 60 master plan points doing so. It was such a wonderful time!- Hernandez
RTI / Leadership Team Reviews / Updates
The RTI team is working smoothly. We have identified nine students who are strong candidates for the gifted program. We would like to focus on that. We are also going to renew all IEP’s that will expire during the summer to before the school year ends. I want to thank Ms. Alexander for helping me call parents and send notifications of SST meetings. - Galceran
If those nine students qualify for gifted will we have the numbers for a permanent gifted teacher? - Jerry
Not yet. We need 30 students to hold a permanent position. It is difficult because great candidates don’t have the test scores we need, and the ones that do didn’t qualify for the gifted program. -Galceran
We have many IEP meetings coming up and we have scheduled the fifth-grade articulation meeting. -Grisales
Open Forum/ Discussion
School Operations
The request for the vending machine in the teachers’ lounge is still being processed. The items were changed to more nutritional options, and then it had a leak. We averaged out about twenty dollars a month of profit from it. -Riaz
My air conditioning unit is not functioning at full capacity. The air feels humid. -Moore
Many air conditioners are breaking down. Your air is probably getting strained since your neighbor Ms. Correa’s air is not working. Ms. Smith, Ms. Cabrera, and Ms. Dominguez’s air conditioners are all broken. The issue is that since our school has a 68% usage rate we do not appear to need the units fixed urgently. The district thinks we can just accommodate the students in other classrooms and they do not account for interventions and testing accommodations. -Riaz
Mr. Everett mentioned that most of these airs will start to break down because they have passed their life expectancy of 15 years. -Jerry
I would like to know what the status is on fixing the water fountain. It is taking up instructional time after physical education to ensure that the students are hydrated. -Jerry
I have weekly conversations with the region about the water fountain. They say are working on it. The issue is that they need to send plumbers to fix it. Now the bathroom in the fifth-grade wing needs to be reattached to the wall since it is loose. Mr. Everett is also looking into speeding up the process. -Riaz
Curriculum Issues
STEM night was amazing! I teared up when I saw how beautiful everything was. Thank you Dr. Galceran and Ms. Quintero for setting it up. I had about 50% of my students show up. It was such a fun time! I even recall Dr. Riaz’s son really having a blast! -Hernandez
Everything was wonderful! The kids had a great time.- Johnson
Thank you and now on May 22nd we will have a STEM night focused on math. We will need teachers to assist with it as well. I want to thank all the teachers that helped during STEM science night. -Galceran
Budget Reviews / Updates
Expenditures of EESAC Funds
We have very limited funds left to clean the school up and prepare for the next school year. Mr. Canadate has been giving classrooms TLC and some of you might have noticed that your classrooms have been scrubbed and given a new layer of wax. This was to encourage students to take pride in their rooms and motivate them to continue doing great in class. We are also paying for our interventionists for the remainder of the year to provide the students a boost to prepare for the next school year. The expenditures have also been used to purchase toner, paper and Accelerated Reader. Next year we will meet and decide if we would like to purchase it for the next school year. -Riaz
Title One
We have used Title I funds to purchase one additional teacher to reduce class size. We have also used it to purchase Ms. Rosario’s position. We buy copy paper, toner and headphones for the children with the rest of the funds. At this time, we would like input regarding any other ways we could use these funds for the next school year. -Riaz
We would like to purchase Ms. Rosario’s position and the extra teacher. Could we ask the parents to bring headphones for their children? -Maria Johnson
We usually do but it is difficult to have all the parents purchase them and they usually get damaged throughout the year. -Riaz
When will the budget be available? -Maria Johnson
After the first of May we will have the tentative budget for next year. We will discuss what we would like to purchase with those funds in our next EESAC meeting. -Riaz
I just wanted to thank you for all that you do. I have seen this school change leadership. Dr. Riaz and Dr. Galceran where sent by God to bless our children. The teachers are amazing and everyone that works in the school really cares about the children. I have seen a great change in the community after the new leadership arrived. -Cruz
Thank you- All
We also have some discretionary funds left in which we use to purchase computers for testing with. -Riaz
Yes, during testing many of the computers lagged and we had so many errors, I think the upper grades should get the new computers as we purchase them. -Jerry
New business
Comments/Concerns
I would like to know if next year we can set up a way to encourage teachers to change the bulletin board regularly. Fourth grade changed the board for testing time and the children ran to see it. It is encouraging for the children to keep the boards updated. Before Ms. Klein would have competitions in which the teachers of a grade level were rewarded with many different incentives for winning the bulletin board competitions -Jerry
I will look into it. -Riaz
I would like to know what could we do about making sure a security guard is accessible to unlock the gate by the cafeteria. Sometimes I spend five minutes looking for someone to unlock the gate.-Jerry
Mr. Carvalho has made it a point to keep the schools safe by enforcing a single point of entry at all times. Even after school, you need to remember that teachers meet with parents and we have after school programs. We must keep everyone safe. Just yesterday Officer Mackie came to help us fill out documentation ensuring that we are following the new directives to keep everyone safe. A quick solution to this is to ask a custodian to unlock the gate. -Riaz
Mr. Roan was a part of the Broadmoor Family for over twenty years. I would like to know if the social committee plans on doing something in his honor. - Jerry
We can have a plaque and have names on them in the hallway. We used to have one but during construction the plaque was misplaced. – Rosario
The social committee is looking into it. Riaz
