Topics Covered

The meeting was called to order at 4:17 p.m. by Sandra Ames.

The minutes from the previous month’s meeting were read and approved without corrections.

OLD BUSINESS:

Mrs. Ames brought up the subject of possible schedule changes for the 2004-2005 school year in order to give the students more time to transition in with their babies before the start of classes. It was suggested that students and their babies have breakfast together in the cafeteria.

Ms. Pratt suggested that a Family and Consumer Science teacher be assigned to the newborn nursery from approximately 8:30 a.m. until the arrival of the caregivers to assist in alleviating the problem of supervision during students’ arrival. All other children would report to their assigned nursery until the fall term or until such time as tables and chairs are available in the cafeteria. To facilitate the implementation of this change, she recommended that those individuals affected begin to create a plan prior to the end of the 4th nine weeks. Then, after review, this plan would be initiated for a trial run. During this time, the teacher would reinforce skills learned in parenting and childcare labs.

The fall school year will follow in much the same way. However, children and mothers who do not report to the newborn nursery would report to the cafeteria upon arrival (approximately 8:30 a.m.). While under the supervision of select childcare staff and a possible teacher, children would be served their breakfast and remain until the arrival of their respective childcare teachers. At that time, they will be accompanied to their various nurseries.

We will request that mothers currently using diaper bags replace them with small backpacks.

It was also suggested that students arrive at 8:30 a.m. and leave at 3:40 p.m.

The Pre-K Paraprofessional schedule would change to 8:40 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The paraprofessionals would arrive and report to their nursery or the cafeteria to attend to the needs of their children. There would be 20 minutes at the end of each day for planning and daily nursery preparations.

Mrs. Ames suggested that students not have bonding with their babies on Thursdays and also perhaps have a no clubs day or a makeup day.

Mrs. King said perhaps we could look at a schoolwide makeup day.

Mrs. Collins put forth the idea of using parenting class as a lab. She also stated that she would be willing to assist the nursery by providing students first through sixth periods as child care aides. This assistance would be made available in the fall.

NEW BUSINESS:

Mrs. King gave out information on the 2004-2005 Achievement Enhancement Program. She distributed a memo with the amount of money allocated for next year. She spoke of how we had previously used the allocation. We needed to decide how to use the $4,450.40 we have been allocated for the next school term.

It was decided that 10% would be used for supplies - $445.04, and the rest would be used for Temporary Instructor funding. The Math and Science departments will be given 10 days, Language Arts will get 11 days, Vocational Education will get 10 days and Childcare will receive 10 days.

It was voted upon and unanimously agreed that the money would be allocated as put forth in the above paragraph.

At the midyear review it will be determined how many days have been used by each area.

The next meeting will be May 12, 2004.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:43 p.m.
