Verified EESAC Meeting Minutes

Approval of minutes: Mrs. Robledo called the meeting to order at 8:20 a.m. The minutes from May 15, 2018, were reviewed and approved. Mrs. Robledo asked members to introduce themselves.

SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Process (SIP). Mrs. Stroleny presented information about the SIP as Mr. Rivers was absent. The SIP has two components: culture goals and academic goals. Mrs. Stroleny said we have room for growth in culture, but growth academically is difficult because the school is at such a high level already. Mrs. Stroleny said we are planning to emphasize cultural components of the SIP this year (school-wide). She said our attendance is excellent. She commended Mr. Rivers for his work in overseeing the SIP, adding that we take the SIP seriously and do much more than what is just in the plan. The SIP (Phase I and Phase II) was reviewed and unanimously approved. Additionally, the 2018-2019 Assurances Verification of EESAC Compliance document and the School Improvement Process (SIP) Signature Page was completed. All state and AP scores were announced. Mrs. Robledo said the work of teachers and students is reflected in the test scores and that parental support of student learning is integral.

Official Business: The EESAC voted unanimously to retain Mrs. Robledo as chairperson. Mrs. Stroleny requested that EESAC funds of approximately $5000 be used for technology purchases. She explained that it is helpful to use EESAC funds to solve technology needs and problems. The request to use EESAC funds for technology was approved unanimously.

Principal’s Message: Mrs. Stroleny welcomed back all members. She said we are excited about new initiatives from the District. Middle School Redesign is intended to make students feel more connected and happier in school and to ease the transition to middle school. To help achieve this, we are providing mentors for some students and more fun activities. Mrs. Robledo asked the students members for suggestions. All three requested more fun activities to increase school spirit. Mrs. Robledo said students need more voice. Mrs. Stroleny said adults need to pay more attention to student needs. We have begun iReady diagnostic testing in math and reading. Mrs. Stroleny reviewed the school calendar. Picture day is Sept. 4 and 5. The PTSA will hold its general meeting at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 6. Club fair is Sept. 7; clubs will now meet Wednesdays before school. Sept. 10 and 19 are teacher planning days. Open House is Sept. 12. Author Peter Lerangis will speak to all language arts classes on Sept. 13 and 14. The first Literacy Team meeting is Sept. 17. Scoliosis and hearing screening for sixth-graders is Sept. 17 and 18.
Start with Hello Week - Sandy Hook Promise begins on Sept. 24. Sept. 26 is Dads Take Your Child to School Day. The Variety Show is at 4:30 p.m. on Sept 26. Sept. 27 is Early Release day. Sept 27 is the Science Fair workshop for parents of eighth-grade students. Sept. 28 is Jean Day. The next ESSAC meeting is Oct. 2.

Open Forum: Mrs. Daniels reported that cross-country tryouts are this week. Girls’ soccer has begun, and boys’ tryouts are this week. Volleyball seasons is upcoming. The gym floor has been refurbished and looks great.
