ROSTER HAS BEEN UPDATED TO REFLECT MS. LIMA’S NAME CHANGE

REPORTS/UPDATES
Ms. Cynthia Lima
Principal’s Updates-

Meeting is to discuss the school’s improvement plan. The platform has changed; the district came up with their own school improvement plan platform. Everyone that went to Synergy, in their applications have access to school improvement. This year the document is live, the form is very simple, at synergy the school was given data, two teachers Ms. Picado and Ms. Albert Math and ELA is predominately the focus of the SIP. They want us to look at areas that we did well, areas where we were neutral, and areas where we need assistance. Meeting with the region there were minimal revisions mostly wording. The areas where we were significantly low was science down 6 percentage points, there is talk that the science test is going to be removed, because the state does progressively worse in the same exact test that has been given in the last several years. In Middle school the high performing students take physical science , if you are teaching the curriculum the students are not prepared to take the FCAT Science 2.0 if you are doing the full physical science curriculum. If you have 8th graders taking physical science you have to embed the benchmarks for the test. Science is an area that needs a lot of attention. The focus is on science this year another area that needs significant focus is math learning gains.

The EESAC monies for student incentives have to support the school improvement plan so we need to make sure that it is in the verbiage to be able to include Fairchild and STEAM.

Learning gains means points. Looking at other schools, some are high in proficiency and low in learning gains. An “A” school has learning gains lower than ours. The point system proves that learning gains are being met. Lowest 25 in Math and ELA, students in this criteria are difficult to bring up because they have been struggling for years.

We have more 6th graders coming in are levels 3,4,5 but when looking at the overall percentage of students in this category it not even 30% in ELA.

We want to be proficient at 36% and get students that are level 2 and move them to a 3, same thing in mathematics when calculating the average, it is only 33% and move them to 36%. Focus continues to be the same, accountability areas are critical. 6th grade is a critical year to determine which students go to advanced civics, and physical science. Building a foundation is important. In ELA we have teacher that is very well versed in elementary ELA, also in science we have Ms. Spicer , in Mathematics we have Ms. Ingraham getting the kids ready for pre algebra.

First Faculty meeting we had two teachers present and share best practices and we are going to start doing that for every meeting. There is a lot of talent to be shared.

Teachers are encouraged to read their area of importance in the SIP because for the first time it is a live document; we have access to it all year.

Ms. Lima demonstrated the benchmarks tested in 8th grade that students need to know in 6th and 7 th grade. The idea is to build capacity in 6th and 7th grade because the FCAT Science it is a cumulative exam not an EOC Exam.
This year we want to focus on STEAM. Early release days will be dedicated to STEAM

STUDENT UPDATES
Ysabella mentioned Algebra 1 is going good.

Ms. Curry Coffee suggested that students have an agenda on different topics that they can discuss

PARENT AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT UPDATES -Ms. Perez by Volunteer Liason
Tonight is the Title 1 parent annual meeting. Sent out connect call, sent out flyers and notification letters. So that the parents are informed as to what we are doing here at country club middle school with our Title 1. There is a plan that we develop with our parents teachers students we want our parents to be engaged in everything that we do here at country club as you see that is why we have you here as well this is a plan that we take advise from our parents as to some of the things that we can do to improve and help our students succeed as well as tonight we have parent representatives and parents that help us with our school parent compact and we will talk about that tonight at the title one meeting on what are the responsibilities’ of the parents at this school and what are some of the things that our school will be doing for your child to succeed. Tonight we will be voting on three parents that have agreed to be our DAC/PAC representatives. These parents go to 6 meetings a year representing our school and bring back information to our school for us.
