School Mascot:
Dr. T. Quinn stated the student body wrote down their ideas for a school mascot during morning arrival/breakfast during the first week of school. The top three choices of the students were tallied as follows: Unicorn, Butterfly and Lion. Students and staff voted on Election Day, (Tuesday, August 28, 2018). The outcome of the vote is as follows: 22 Butterfly/20 Lion and 14 Unicorn. We would like to officially select the Butterfly as the school mascot in order to submit it to the District and use as a part of our branding (school logo, stationary, website, etc.). Dr. T. Quinn noted that the stork has been used unofficially as the mascot but it was not on record downtown.
Dr. T. Quinn asked if there are any questions regarding the butterfly? Dr. Y. Parchment asked “What does the butterfly look like?” Dr. T. Quinn stated it’s a blue butterfly and displayed a picture from current EESAC PPT. Dr. Calvina Clay asked “Why not the stork?” Dr. T. Quinn stated students and staff voted and the outcome was 22 votes for the butterfly.
The members discussed the student choices, selection process, meaning of butterfly and comparison of stork vs butterfly.
Ms. Odessa Europe stated the butterfly blooms and goes from one stage to another that represents a mom and her child and the cocoon represents the expectant mom.
Dr. T. Quinn asked members if they were in favor of adopting the butterfly as the school’s mascot. Results: All were in favor and there were no abstentions.
The members further discussed the butterfly design including the color. Ms. S. Pottinger suggested adding some pink to the blue butterfly to represent girls and boys. Ms. M.
