Goals and Strategies
Reflection-There are a total of six steps that we are actively monitoring in the school improvement process. Three are academic and the other three are school culture. These can be found on our school website. All of the targeted practices have been fully maintained except grit which has been infused throughout faculty meetings. It will be formally addressed on October 26, 2018 in a professional development workshop. In a couple of weeks, we will train the faculty and staff on grit.
Phase II- We are currently in phase II of our action plan. The process consists of nine weeks total; six of them we are addressing and monitoring the needs in our plan and two weeks of reflecting on the process. Riaz
iReady
iReady is program used for reading and math. We test three times a year and next week we are doing a growth monitoring assessment. Riaz
Grade 2-5 Tier 1 students must complete 45 minutes a week of instruction, Tier 2 students must complete 60 minutes, and Tier 3 students must complete 75 minutes. In kindergarten all students must complete 45 minutes and in first grade Tier 1 students must complete 45 minutes, Tier 2 and 3 students must complete 60 minutes. Quintero
We encourage for students to do iReady because we see a strong correlation between their scores and FSA scores. We know that the district is paying for it. If you don’t use it, you lose it! The growth monitoring will not disrupt classroom instruction because they are using it during their computer time. Riaz
What do the students need to do to win iReady capes? Jerry
The first week we did top time usage. The next week we did top three time on task in reading and math. So, we look at minutes and for them to have at least 75% passing rate. Riaz
What do you look at for the top iReady teacher? Jerry
We look at 75% average passing rate and highest minutes. Riaz
FSA Weekly assessments
We are currently looking at the new way of obtaining data using the performance matters program. The last biweekly assessment data is as follows:
-Grade 3 Unit 1 Week 4 ELA
Broadmoor Elementary Average- 41.7%
Miami Dade County Public Schools Average - 48.2%
-Grade 4 Unit 1 Week 3 ELA
Broadmoor Elementary Average- 39.2%
Miami Dade County Public Schools Average - 47.3%
-Grade 5 Unit 1 Week 3 ELA
Broadmoor Elementary Average- 55.1%
Miami Dade County Public Schools Average – 54.8%
-Grade 3 Topic 3 Math
Broadmoor Elementary Average- 52.2%
Miami Dade County Public Schools Average - 47%
-Grade 4 Topic 3 Math
Broadmoor Elementary Average- 39.2%
Miami Dade County Public Schools Average – 47.3%
-Grade 5 Topic 3 Math
Broadmoor Elementary Average- 55.1%
Miami Dade County Public Schools Average – 54.8%
There are some trial and error problems we are facing. Some students bubble sheet aren’t registering in the program so some grade levels are missing some students test scores. Riaz
Why aren’t first and second grade being tested? M Johnson
They are but we only discuss third grade through fifth grade data because that is what determines our school grade. Riaz
School Parent Compact
We would like to establish the parents in our school and have them assist with the academic achievement of our all our students. -Riaz
Professional Development Opportunities
The following are the professional Development Opportunities being offered for faculty and staff to sign up for:
-iTutor Nearpod Digital Tutoring PD for Teachers Tutoring ESOL Students in grades 2-12 (10/24/18)
-ELLevation InClass Platform Updates for 2018-2019 School Year 10/24/18 or 10/25/18 (Half Day)
-Professional Development for Elementary Teachers of English Learners (Els) 10/26/18 Quintero
RTI
We are working on increasing our gifted enrollment. We ask teachers to recommend students and we will look at their test scores to refer. For kindergarten we don’t need SAT scores. If you have a doubt just refer them. We have held our first series of SST meetings October 2nd, in which we meet to address the needs of four students. On October 9th we meet for two students since we only had Ms. Budowsky available for half of that day. On the 16th of this month we plan to met for four more students. There is a new way of processing these cases. The paperwork has slightly changed, and they have added a Mental/ health emotional section for us to consider during referral. -Galceran
Leadership Team Reviews
We performed our review of differentiated instruction folders today. We are also looking at intervention folders and iReady passing rate. -Riaz
School Operations
The new senate bill has provided us with a police officer monitoring the school. We have also received Mr. Gabriel Rodriguez a behavior analyst from the Jessie Trice Community Health Organization to assist us with children’s health services. He is a part time employee that will service the needs of the students’. His schedule is half a day on Wednesday, full days on Thursdays and Fridays.
-Riaz
Hello, I am here to assist with any mental health needs the students might have. I am a flexible social worker and I just want to help the kids. I am here to support you. -Rodriguez
I’m glad you are here. This is a well needed service our community needs. I can’t wait to collaborate with you. -Moore
I hope to build on what already exists in this community. It is difficult to teach children who haven’t had their basic needs fulfilled. If they are sleepy or hungry how can you expect a student to learn? -Rodriguez
Thank you so much! – (all)
Curriculum Issues
We already spoke about the performance matters glitches and the iReady data. -Riaz
Budget Reviews/Updates
I have given you the CASAS Detail by School Final budget for this school year. We have enough enrollment to generate 22 teaching positions. We have to surplus one ESOL teacher because our ESOL enrollment is down. Ms. Santana Regalado has already been informed of this and if she is getting surplused I will know by tomorrow. -Riaz
Secure or Future Referendum
We aren’t receiving enough money per student in our school district. Each municipality has offered to send us a police officer for one year. After tHat year the school district will be responsible for providing the police officer. To take care of these issues Mr. Carvahlo and the school board are encouraging people to vote yes on #362. This will also give teachers a much-needed raise. If this passes it will be in effect for four years, then it will go back to ballot to reinstate. Riaz
Could we get the same police officer in our school? We keep getting different ones. M. Johnson
The police officers are offered this position as overtime. This mean they won’t be a permanent position. It varies based on which officers would like to take on the task. A permanent position was not negotiated in the deal. We were offered a police officer to protect the school, not to get involved in the school.-Riaz
I am making a motion to purchase toners, certificates and printers with EESAC funds. We need approximately $1,300 for toner, $600 for certificates and $780 for printers. Riaz
Motion approved (unanimous)
Title One
The Parent and Family Engagement Plan was created by parents for parents last May and in September it was edited. If you would like to take a look at it , it’s located in the about us page. It was uploaded and approved. -Riaz
We just had a Title I audit and I would like to formally thank teachers who submitted their communication logs. They loved seeing that were using Class Dojo. What they would like us to is refer to the Parent Compact in the communication logs. -Rosario
We won awards for having the most parents involved in our last DAC meeting. They were very happy with us. We want to thank the teachers for always helping us. -Rosario
Yes, they said our plan was the best one they have seen! -Galceran
New Business
UF IFAS Extension office has partnered up with us to help us have a gardening club. They have helped us setup two planters for the fourth and fifth graders will care for it. I want to thank Ms. Rosario for helping us with it and parents on the PTA. There is nothing they won’t say no to. Thank you for everything you do. -Galceran
The Girl Scouts of America would like to build a partnership with our school only for girls. Riaz
Jose Fabian is a community representative that would like to partner with us. He is a representative of the No Fault Group and encourages people not to drink or text while they drive. -Riaz
Hello, I am here for whatever you need. I am very passionate about educating the community and safety. I have a van that has television in it and I can do fun things for the kids to teach them about driving safely. -Fabian
Trunk or treat was a positive event and the children really look forward to seeing their teachers dress up. Trunk or treat will be happening on one of the following dates: October 29th 2018 or October 30th 2018. Which of the daters do we prefer? Riaz
I think it should be on Tuesday, so teachers have more time to prepare for it. -Moore
Yes, Tuesday sounds great! Johnson
Ms. Santana suggested that each grade level should pick a decade to decorate and dress up as. For example, fourth grade will do the 70’s and we will dress up like that decade and decorate the car that way. Jerry
We will open this during our next faculty meeting. First, we must see how many teachers are willing to participate. Then we can ask further details. Riaz
What activities will we have for the children? Moore
Yes, after the candy was gone there wasn’t much left to do. Hernandez
Fifth grade would like to hold a competition for willing teachers to setup and manage a carnival game that children can purchase tickets for to play. This year they would like to sell chips and drinks only and not pizza. The winning grade (who collects the most tickets) will earn a special prize from the fifth grade teachers. Riaz
Comments and Concerns
The termites are back again. Moore
Yes, Mr. Everett is taking care of that. Riaz
The grass is very high. When will it be cut? Moore
That area is the districts area to cut. It has been raining a lot lately so that grass growth beats the districts capacity to cut it. Riaz
Motion to adjourn -Riaz
