School Improvement Process
Phase 2/Quarter 2
We are finishing up the second quarter next week and we are moving into the midyear review. We tried to determine as a school how we are doing based on the iReady Diagnostic 2 data. The handout you have compares iReady Diagnostic 2 Data for reading and math from the last school year to this school year. Based on these numbers we are moving in the right direction. This quantitative data shows we have made a great improvement this year. Now, for qualitative data we performed walkthroughs for reading and math this week.We looked at journals, DI folders and student work products. Based on this walkthrough we will decide what our goals will be for Phase 3 of the SIP. -Riaz
Updates
iReady-Passing Rate
We would like for every student to have a passing rate of 75% or higher. We will still look at time on task but focus on increasing our passing rate. -Riaz
Math Topic Assessments/ Florida Standard Assessment Reading/Monthly Instructional Focus
We will have better data for reading and math since most grade levels were testing this week. -Riaz
Yes, second through fifth grade did their reading biweekly’s this week. -Quintero
Professional Development Opportunities
St. Thomas University online degrees and certification programs for administrators, teachers, counselors, early childhood educators and para professionals. -Quintero
There is another Professional Development Opportunity that was released today. The Youth Mental Health Training for all teachers will soon be offered. Training is based on student’s mental health. The state passed a law that requires everyone trained.-Riaz
Will this be a one-time training? -Grisales
Yes, so far it seems that way. It will be provided on the portal. -Riaz
AdvancED Accreditation Engagement Review
AdvancED is the process of accreditation which means the district abides by the highest education standards. Our school district is currently accredited now we are in the process of re-accreditation. We were congratulated to be one of the schools that was picked for this process. On February 12th, 2019 they will meet with the leadership team (9-12 teachers) and discuss the process we use for school improvement. They will visit about 8 classrooms for 20 minutes to observe best practices. They have a set of things they are looking for and we will share the list with teachers during our next faculty meeting. They will also select children at random to interview them about our school. We will talk about these things during the morning announcements to help the students prepare for the visit. -Riaz
RTI / Leadership Team Reviews / Updates
Dr. Galceran would say that we are just trying to staff students and target the students that are new to our school. The RTI process is fluid so if you refer a student at the end of the school year they would flow or continue into the next school year.-Riaz
Open Forum/ Discussion
School Operations
The water fountain in-between third and fourth grade has been fixed. We are also looking into replacing the ethernet wiring in the school. Since our WIFI is more reliable we would also benefit from buying the wireless adapters as well. -Riaz
Can we get a few more? -Johnson
Yes, of course. -Riaz
I also noticed that they are changing the soap dispenser to the foam ones. -Grisales.
Yes, Mr. Everett is working on that. -Riaz
Curriculum Issues
On Tuesday third grade will begin portfolios. -Quintero
Budget Reviews / Updates
We just received another allocation for an interventionist. This will fund them at least until testing. We are looking to start Saturday school in March. -Riaz
Will spring break affect it? -Jerry
Dr. Galceran emailed everyone the Saturday School schedule. If you are interested in teaching let her know. We managed to find a way for the retainees to participate, they will only be provided a couple of sessions since they test in April this year. They will receive 2-3 Saturdays while fourth and fifth grade will receive 6 days. -Riaz
