Verified EESAC Meeting Minutes

Approval of minutes: Mrs. Robledo called the meeting to order at 8:20 a.m. The minutes from Dec. 4, 2018, were reviewed and approved.

SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Plan (SIP). Mr. Rivers reviewed the Needs Analysis by Grade Report for the i-Ready Diagnostic Test (AP2) that was completed in December 2018. Based on the data, improvement was shown in all areas. In grade 6 mathematics, the percentage of students scoring below grade level dereased from 21 percent to 16 percent; in grade 7, from 24 percent to 19 percent; and in grade 8, from 27 percent to 23 percent. In grade 6 reading, the percentage of students scoring below grade level dropped from 23 percent to 19 percent; in grade 7, from 18 percent to 12 percent; and in grade 8, from 12 percent to 9 percent. Mr. Rivers also reviewed the 2018-2019 Attendance Boundary Committee (ABC) Notification of Final Target Schools report. The final targeted and final advised schools list was discussed and shared with the EESAC. The ABC Committee met to discuss boundaries of schools and to assess how new construction in the county may affect school boundaries.

Principal’s Message: Mrs. Stroleny welcomed all members back and said she hoped everyone had a good holiday and she also wished all a happy new year. Mrs. Stroleny thanked the PTSA for supporting end-of-year activities inclusive of Kick-It Up, snow cone day, the teacher holiday luncheon, the Box Tops fundraiser, and the campus beautification project. Mrs. Stroleny thanked Mrs. Robledo for her work in organizing the Islands of Adventure field trip on Dec. 7. Mrs. Robledo said more than 360 students, parent chaperones, and teachers participated. On Dec. 11, Mrs. Harmon’s music students presented a holiday concert. On Dec. 12, a team from the District visited our campus for the STEAM designation. She thanked Dr. Garcia for his work in coordinating our efforts toward this designation. She said the STEAM designation is important for us to show the community that our school is “worth the extra cost.” On Dec. 20, students from various departments presented the Holidays Around the World show, which was organized by Mrs. Valdes. Upcoming events include the general PTSA meeting at 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 10. The school Spelling Bee, organized by Mr. Hudson, is on Jan. 10. The Carver faculty holiday celebration is on Jan. 11. On Jan. 14, the Literacy Team will meet and will discuss iReady results. The final tour for prospective parents is on Jan. 16. The second marking period ends on Jan. 17, and Jan. 18 is a teacher planning day. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday is on Jan. 21. On Jan. 31, Language Arts students will present the Shakespeare Showcase. Feb.1 is Take Your Child to Work Day; testing for incoming International Studies students will take place on that date. The next EESAC meeting is on Feb. 5.

Open Forum: Mrs. Daniel reported that track and field meets on Saturdays begin this Saturday; On Jan. 27, Carver students will participate in the Miami kids run; MDCPS has partnered with Fitbit, and students run the final 1.2 miles on the Miami Marathon after logging the first 25 miles prior to that date. Boys’ softball season is underway with the playoffs upcoming. Dr. Garcia gave more information about the District STEAM visit. The District team visited various classrooms to allow us to demonstrate what we do. Our score on the visit improved from last year. We are improving and growing in certain areas. We have partnered with our parent organizations to better meet STEAM criteria for community partnerships. Mrs. Robledo said she appreciates the work of all teachers and noted Dr. Garcia’s work with the STEAM designation. Mrs. Stroleny said the first half of the year has been amazing and that exciting things are planned for second half of the school year. Mrs. Daniels thanked the administration for their leadership, support, and guidance. Mrs. Sans said we are all blessed with strong teachers and administrators. Miss Moglia said she and her fellow students have made a good choice in coming to Carver.
