Call to Order
The EESAC meeting was called to order at 4:20 p.m. by Ms. Odessa Europe, EESAC Chair.
In Attendance: Dr. Calvina Clay, Ms. Tammy S. Edouard, Ms. Odessa Europe, Dr. Angela Garden, Ms. Constance Gilbert, Ms. Sonya Harrington, Dr. Ruby Jenkins, Ms. Marilyn Morning,Dr. Yvonne Parchment, Ms. Sharon Pottinger, and Ms. Mildreca Robinson.
Welcome/Introductions
Ms. Europe welcomed members and asked attendees to introduce themselves.
Minutes
A motion by Dr. Calvina Clay to accept the minutes with noted corrections from the December 5, 2018 meeting was made and seconded by Dr. Gayden. Motion passed unanimously.
Old Business
School Mascot—Butterfly
Ms. Edouard informed the members that a vendor is currently working on our new school mascot,a pink and blue butterfly that represents the school.
New Business
Instructional Focus Calendar: Dr. Jenkins shared that the Instructional Focus Calendar was created and is used by teachers. It focuses on literacy so that it could be used by all subjects and covers the 3rd Nine Weeks. Every Friday there will be a school-wide lesson implemented.
SIP-Mid-Year Data Review
Ms. Edouard shared and provided a handout of the SIP 2018-2019 Mid-Year Data Map. The Data Map reflects staff and student monthly attendance, attendance comparisons to other schools, Tiers 1 and 2. The attendance data for faculty and staff is displayed on bulletin board near main entrance and student data is displayed on bulletin board in east hallway. The Academics/ Attendance/Attitude Incentive Goal is 90-100% Attendance.
Ms. Edouard advised attendees a math teacher has been hired and should start on Thursday, January 31.
Mid-year Data Results
Science/Math: Dr. Gayden shared that math students percent earning learning gains in 2017 was 26 percent compared to 54 percent in 2018. The average percent correct on the Algebra 1 assessment was 22 percent and the Geometry assessment was 25 percent. The Science Mid-Year Assessments will be conducted in February for 8th graders and Biology students.
Language Arts/Reading: Dr. Jenkins shared that progress monitoring is ongoing and will occur every week during the third Nine Weeks. A snapshot of the 9th and 10th graders data was reviewed by the ELA Dept. teachers to determine which of the standards that are in most need of improvement.
Social Studies: Ms. Europe shared the Social Studies students have begun testing week of January 29. The District average Mid-Year Assessment is 54 percent; currently students are at 46 percent.
The remaining students will be tested in the upcoming week.
Title 1:
Mrs. Morning informed members the items sited previously have been corrected. The auditor is scheduled to revisit in January or February to review our filing system, which includes the budget, curriculum, and professional development. The departments were encouraged to provide copies of department data chats, agendas and sign in logs for the filing system to Ms. Morning.
Supplemental Material: A motion was made by Ms. Robinson to authorize the spending of the EESAC funds up to $300.00 for Social Studies and Reading supplemental materials. Motion was seconded by Dr. Gayden and passed unanimously.
Dr. Calvina Clay inquired does a letter have to be prepared stating how EESAC funds will be used? Ms. Edouard acknowledged that a letter could/will be prepared by end of meeting.
Ms. Gilbert informed attendees said letter inquiry will be noted in records.
Student Government Association-No Report
Prior to adjournment, there was no further input from members.
Ms. Europe adjourned meeting at 5:15p.m.
