OLD BUSINESS:
Edwina King said she is ready to shorten the school day for next school year upon staff approval at the next staff meeting. The school hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. for the students.
Will change the Pre-K paraprofessionals’ start work hours from 8:45 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. The end of the work day will be 4:00 p.m. instead of 4:05 p.m.
We will run a pilot the week of 5/24/04 to 5/28/04. Two teachers will come in at 8:15 a.m. to be in the Newborn nurseries.
NEW BUSINESS:
Mrs. King handed out copies of the Sterling Feedback Report for reading and we are to bring it back for discussion at the next meeting on how we will use it.
Mrs. King discussed keeping data in one place and gave an opportunity for those who had contributed documents to take them back if they needed them.
SPEP Annual Review – Once we have the test scores we can start writing the annual review. Ms. Ames will do the Nursery, Mrs. Clarington will do the Math/Science portion, and Ms. McKay will do the Language Arts portion.
Mrs. King reviewed the attendance policy. She read a letter from a parent regarding excused absences. She said she will need qualifiers about attendance.
Naima Bradman said we need to do interest surveys with the students.
How do we peak students’ interest?
Mrs. King suggested perhaps have one project (interdisciplinary) during the school year.
We must have EESAC meetings through the summer to implement this plan. She also told us not to expect to address all the Opportunities For Improvement found in the Sterling Feedback Report.
Mrs. Clarington said we should ask for volunteers from each department to come to EESAC meetings during the summer at the June staff meeting.
Mrs. King said we can also include interdisciplinary units in the SPEP.
Mrs. Clarington said we can present the thought to teachers in June so they can think about it over the summer. We can address it again at the beginning of the school year. We can give examples of how disciplines can work together at the June staff meeting and work out a timeline for implementation over the summer.
