Verified EESAC Meeting Minutes

Approval of minutes: Mrs. Robledo called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. The minutes from Feb. 22, 2019, were reviewed and approved.

SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Plan (SIP). Mr. Rivers reported that the administrators continue to see teachers implementing MAWI learning programs / practices in their classrooms. Teachers and staff are also facilitating Circles with their students.

Principal’s Message: Mrs. Stroleny reviewed recent events. On Feb. 9 the PTSA held a service day with approximately 70 participants. On Feb. 15, the Spring Social was well attended. Author Leslea Neuman gave presentations to eighth-graders through Language Arts and Social Studies classes on Feb. 21. A Black History luncheon for students took place on Feb. 20 in both cafeterias. Mr. Scippio organized Alumni Day for alumni of Carver High School on Feb. 22. The Spanish Talent Show, organized by Mrs. Noa, was on Feb. 27. Mrs. Lindo organized the Black History luncheon for faculty on Feb. 28. On March 1, Mrs. Stroleny attended a midyear data review for the Central Region. On March 5 we had a visit from the District for Middle School Redesign. A group of 10 students attended the Restorative Justice Practices (RJP) student conference on March 9. Upcoming events include the Principal’s Honor Roll luncheon on March 12. March 14 is an early release day. March 15 is snow cone day for sixth-graders. March 16 is the Friends of Carver fundraiser. Benefits review and enrollment for UTD members is on March 18-19. There will be a faculty meeting for FSA and EOC testing preparation on March 18. The school musical organized by Mrs. Harmon is on March 20. March 20 also is the Five Star School Award Recognition and Community Partner Recognition. Hoop-It-Up for eighth-graders is on March 22. Spring recess is March 25-29. The fourth marking period begins on April 1. FSA ELA Writing assessments begin on April 2. April 2 is Wear Blue for Autism Day. The PTSA will conduct a service day on April 6. On April 8, there will be a language arts Chalk Poetry activity. There will be a faculty meeting at 8:30 a.m. on April 11. The DSD1 German test given by the German government is on April 15-16. IS orientation is on April 17. April 19 is a teacher planning day. A Spanish author invited by Mrs. Galvez will speak with Spanish students on April 22. April 23 is the end-of-year concert organized by Mrs. Harmon. IE orientation is on April 24. NJHS induction is on April 25. FSA testing in reading and math begins on May 1. Advanced Placement foreign language exams are as follows: Spanish on May 7, French on May 8, German on May 9, and Italian on May 15.

Open Forum: Mrs. Sans said she is awaiting the magnet school notification date on March 15. Miss Moglia said the bathroom beautification project begins soon. Mrs. Fernandez reported on Math Counts: Francesco Cascone was fifth individually in the County and the team finished fourth overall to qualify for the state competition on March 21; Carver took first place in the math relay. Dr. Garcia reported that three students will represent Carver at the state Science Fair on March 26-29, and that former Carver student Zoe Diederich will attend the international science fair as a continuation of her Science Fair project at Carver last year. William Hudson will represent Carver at the National Geographic state geography bee in on March 29 in Jacksonville. Mrs. Toledo reported that six students won awards for website design in the Youth Fair competition and Carver took first place in the district in the Learning.com competition. Mrs. Robledo reported that her students recently completed a project that included writing, acting and producing a video for AP Spanish language. Mrs. Daniels reported that tennis, basketball, and golf seasons are underway. Mrs. Garcia Fanta asked whether Carver has a middle school graduation ceremony. Mrs. Stroleny explained that the District discourages middle school graduation ceremonies.
