Verified EESAC Meeting Minutes

Approval of Previous Minutes: Ingrid Robledo, Chairwoman, called the E.E.S.A.C. meeting to order at 8:15 a.m. The May E.E.S.A.C. minutes were reviewed. The necessary corrections were made and the minutes were approved.

School Performance Excellence Plan (S.P.E.P.) Update: The S.P.E.P. Update was given by Libby Gonzalez. Mrs. Gonzalez announced that Carver’s 2004 FCAT scores were excellent. To date, Carver has not received the state grade or the results regarding the federal requirement of yearly adequate progress. The letter grade and yearly adequate progress results will be published on June 15. According to Carver’s calculations, the school was successful. Mrs. Gonzalez reviewed each objective of the 2003 – 2004 S.P.E.P. and said that Carver successfully achieved each objective. For some, the objective was even surpassed. Mrs. Gonzalez asked for the signatures of certain EESAC representatives on the objective completion document so that Mrs. Gonzalez, Mrs. Stroleny, and Mrs. Robledo can turn it into the ACCESS Center. The development of the 2004 – 2005 S.P.E.P. objectives is currently in progress. Ms. Agudelo is the chairwoman for the math objective. Ms. Soto is the chairwoman for the science objective. Mr. Hudson is the chairman for the language arts objective. Ms. Gomez is the chairwoman for the foreign language objective. All teachers have been required to participate on one of the S.P.E.P. committees so that they have ownership and involvement for the 2004 – 2005 S.P.E.P. Mrs. Gonzalez encouraged all interested parents and students to join one of the objective committees to add their insight and opinions. The 2004 – 2005 S.P.E.P. document development has already been started. It is a time intensive document that requires many revisions. In past years it has proven very difficult to produce the required final document in September without pre-school year preparations. At this time, we have a strong skeleton document. In August, the S.P.E.P. committees will be able to refine the strategies.

Principal’s Report: Mrs. Gonzalez encouraged all interested parents and students to view the Carver website to see an updated list of Carver’s achievements and awards.

Announcements: New parent and student representatives to E.E.S.A.C. introduced themselves. They received their E.E.S.A.C. folders from Mrs. Robledo. The current E.E.S.A.C. representatives introduced themselves. Mrs. Gonzalez commended Mr. Sands, the sponsor for the student council, on an outstanding job with the 2004 student council elections. Mrs. Gramling announced that the two-night Lucky Dollar Private Eye production was entertaining and financially successful. Alexis Wong won the National S.E.C.M.E. Poster Competition. Mrs. Daniels announced that new banners will be hung in the gym to celebrate the success of the Carver athletics program. Mrs. Prahl mentioned that the Carver website now has a link to our sponsor Books and Books. Carver will receive a small profit from any book purchased through that link. Mr. Sands announced that Carver students won the Coconut Grove Goombay poster and essay contests. Patricia Alejandro announced that she and Alma Hoyos won the Marcos Rodriquez scholarship, which had been sponsored by the Foreign Language Association. Mrs. Robledo announced that the May 13th Club de Arte Dramatico presentation was a success. She also informed the E.E.S.A.C. committee that she was selected to be a national A.P. Reader and she will work in San Antonio, Texas this summer. Mr. Dubey complemented and thanked the E.E.S.A.C. community representatives for the advice, history, and perspective that they bring to the E.E.S.A.C. committee. Katrina Avila thanked Mrs. Robledo, Mrs. Small, and the P.T.S.A. for the very fun 8th grade banquet and picnic. Mrs. Gonzalez wished everyone a great and safe summer.
