Great Things are Happening at D.M.W. COPE

New Business

Update-School time change proposal
Ms. Europe shared that students have requested to change the school time for work or for other extracurricular activities they would like to join at their homeschools. The suggested senior high time is 7:20am to 2:20pm. Ms. Robinson commented on the following: 1. Students voiced their concern over the years they want to participate in after school sports. 2. Students want to get jobs.
Overall, students getting out of school later and arriving home at a later time prevents them from participating in practice sessions or securing employment with earlier hours.

Dr. Jenkins shared the following concerns with changing to an earlier school time:
1. Students who are 18 years of age may still work the later shifts because the job openings are for later shifts and would diminish the amount of time they would have to rest before returning to school.
2. Bus routes may be delayed like what we are experiencing with the afternoon buses for pick up.

Ms. Edouard spoke with the route examiner and several issues are occurring this year with buses for our students such as daily delays of picking up, dropping off and bus drivers absent from work. Ms. Edouard was informed by the route examiner, if our students and their babies were on the 7:20am-2:20pm schedule they would be first priority for picked up and dropped off.

Ms. Europe called for the vote. 11= Yes and 2=Abstained Results: Recommendation passed.
Ms. Edouard will notify the District of the results today and will be notified what the next step will be.

Topic Testing Data: Dr. Jenkins shared the ELA CommonLit Assessment Overview Aug-Oct 2019.
The Performance Overview depicts average score of 51-75% on Assessments (HIGH BUBBLE). Tenth grade= 36.36% and Ninth grade=16.67%.

Ms. Edouard shared that our school rating is based on learning gains. A Level 3 means a student passed the and we try to get at least a year’s worth of growth from each student.

Dr. Gayden shared the Performance Matters Data for Math and Science. Students took the Algebra Unit Topics 1 & 2 and nine students were tested. The COPE average score is 27.3%, and the district average score is 47.1%. Students can pass with a lower score. The Geometry students took Unit 1. The COPE average score is 27.3%, and the district average score is 45.5%. Biology Assessment: Eight students were tested. The COPE average score is 50% and the district average score is 61.1%. The Comprehensive Science student (8th grade) average score is 32%, and the district average score is 58.1%. Biology Pre-Test Vs Unit 1 increased in scores.
