Approval of minutes: Mrs. Stroleny called the meeting to order at 8:15 a.m. The minutes from May 21, 2020, were reviewed and approved.
SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Process (SIP). Mr. Rivers said we are in Phase II, Quarter I Implementation Phase of the 2020-21 SIP. We had our SIP review last week with the Region and since then have made the recommended changes. The following documents were reviewed and completed:
• 2020-2021 EESAC Assurance Checklist
• 2020-2021 SIP Signature Page
The 2020-2021 EESAC Composition Waiver was also discussed. The form was not completed; we are not requesting a change to our current composition. The EESAC roster and bylaws were also reviewed and updated (as necessary).
Official business: The members voted unanimously to approve Mr. Sands as new EESAC chairperson. Mr. Sands said he has been associated with EESAC since its inception in 1998. He said we will fill EESAC student representatives through the Social Studies department. Due to COVID-19, a special election will be held to the open “student” and “alternate student” council members.
Principal’s Message: Mrs. Stroleny welcomed all members back. In spite of challenges, we started strong. Teacher collaboration is at an all-time high. Our teachers are truly supporting each other. Mrs. Brown and Mr. Gonzalez have done much heavy lifting as it relates to technology and helping colleagues. We started with K12 and moved to Teams and Zoom. Two teachers retired. Mrs. Robledo filled many roles including UTD Steward, EESAC Chair, and A.P. Spanish teacher, and there is not one person who can fill all those roles. Mrs. Moghani, A.P. teacher and German Department Chairperson, retired. Mrs. Gari, a member of the office staff, also retired. Those are three important people who will be missed and hard to replace. We have new additions: Mrs. Lauter is a full-time German teacher; Mrs. Kroll is an hourly German teacher, Mrs. Martinez has returned part-time in the Science department, and Mr. Callaway is a full-time science teacher. Mrs. Vinat is our new UTD Steward, creating a smooth transition from Mrs. Robledo. The Carver website has been managed by Mr. Gonzalez to communicate with families. Mrs. Stroleny has sent daily communications to parents. Our counselors have been staffing the telephones to answer questions from parents, students, and teachers. Mrs. Rivera has been working on the master schedule, getting our building ready inclusive of signage, removing non-essential furniture, verifying cleaning protocols, and overseeing Advanced Placement and the departments she supports. We have two schedules, one for My School Online and one for physical school. This has necessitated 84 language courses. The bell schedule has been adjusted to allow 10 minutes for passing. Mrs. Serrano and her daughter have made a video to show children the new protocols on campus. Only most necessary equipment will be on campus. We have worked to get AP requirements approved, as many teachers are teaching those courses for the first time this year. Mr. Rivers has been addressing everything related to SIP, EESAC, Safety to Life, safety drills, gifted, ESE, parent /student handbook, and faculty handbook, as well as the departments he supports. We have approximately five teachers working on site. Mrs. Castro has been focusing on attendance with Mrs. Pinoc. Taking attendance is challenging with the technology glitches we have had. Mrs. Peralta has taken charge of technology distribution ensuring all 1.024 students have a device. Mr. Grant is heading security and verifying health and safety checks for anyone entering campus, along with campus patrols and camera surveillance. The administrative team is overseeing meal service distribution on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6 p.m.
Open Forum: Mrs. Rodriguez asked about future meetings on Zoom. Mr. Rivers said Zoom works well for EESAC.
Adjournment: Mrs. Stroleny adjourned the meeting at 8:43 a.m.
