Verified EESAC Meeting Minutes

Approval of minutes: Mr. Rivers called the meeting to order at 8:10 a.m. The minutes from October 27, 2020, were reviewed and approved.

SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Process (SIP). Mr. Rivers said at our last meeting we approved the quarterly review and implementation steps. That information has been uploaded and is routed for approval. Implementation steps are in place and being implemented school-wide.

Official business: None

Principal’s Message: Mrs. Stroleny is at a principals' meeting and unable to join us, but she asked Mr. Rivers to give the following update on her behalf: On Oct. 7 our sixth-grade physical students returned to the building. On Oct. 9 our seventh- and eighth-grade physical students returned. We have had students and staff that have had to quarantine. All district guidelines are being followed inclusive of cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting the affected areas. District guidelines regarding communicating with faculty, staff, and parents were also followed. Ms. Anouck Jourdaa is Carver's Teacher of the Year. She is a French and mathematics teacher and very deserving of this recognition. Give Miami Day is Nov. 19, 2020. If you can, support our PTSA. Teachers and students are working on virtual holiday shows, performances, and greetings. We are looking forward to bringing some joy and fun into this time of year. Friends of Carver is in the planning stage. Students and staff are doing an excellent job during these challenging times. Everyone is trying their very best, and Mrs. Stroleny said she is so very proud of Carver. Teachers are teaching MSO and PHY. MSO and PHY students are learning and growing as expected; we are just doing things a little differently but still the Carver way. We are especially proud of the students, as they have met the challenges of all of the changes. We are very much aware also of how much heavy lifting our families are doing to make this work, and we want to thank them. Mrs. Stroleny wished all members and their families a safe and blessed Thanksgiving holiday.

Open Forum: Mrs. Vinat said that we have a new UTD alternate steward as Mr. Hudson was elected. Both he and Dr. Garcia were worthy candidates. Mr. Sands said in the past we have held three athletic events for all students. We are adjusting this year to make those events less contact than in the past. Field days by grade level prior will replace Spike-It-Up, Kick-It-Up and Hoop-It-Up. Mrs. Vinat said our United Way campaign for the staff ended Nov. 12, and we met our goal. Mr. Sands explained that there was no student campaign this year. Next year we hope to fulfill everything in its entirety. Dr. Garcia discussed the STEAM school designation and Science Fair. Because of circumstances, our involvement is being modified or eliminated this year. Science Fair has been modified with Carver limited to three entries in the District Science Fair instead of the usual 15 entries. Projects are all virtual PowerPoint presentations. STEM/STEAM also has been modified and the rubric has changed. Our community outreach and partnerships are limited; PTSA and parent organizations are extremely important this year because we can do virtual events. Dr. Garcia asked for groups to reach out to him (at garciag@dadeschools.net ) to reach these criteria. Team competitions are difficult to do and Robotics class is not taking place this year. Mrs. Daniels said currently there are no sports for middle schools in the county. She and Mr. Rivers are exploring possibilities for this year.
