OLD BUSINESS:
We received answers to our six (6) questions regarding the School Improvement Plan.
Fifty-three percent (53%) of our students must score at the mastery level in Math and 48% of our students must score at the mastery level in Reading. Students must score at level 4 in Writing.
The graduation rate should be put as a strategy – however, this needs further clarification.
Mrs. King said we will go with five objectives. Advanced placement will be one of the strategies.
We can do a 1% increase in Writing but change the base level.
Student absences will be taken up at a later meeting.
How we may get more parental involvement with the school was discussed.
NEW BUSINESS:
Ms. Stephanie Hamlin resigned from the EESAC Committee. We can hold elections at the first staff meeting.
We are ready to draft the new goals and objectives for the School Improvement Plan.
Mrs. King said we need to have one unique strategy for each subgroup.
Mrs. Clarington presented goals for Math and Science. May want to use scope and sequence.
Classes for advanced placement students are identified and will be provided.
We will call the district for clarification before writing unique strategies for each subgroup.
Ms. McKay said the objectives for Reading are the same. Accelerated Reader objectives are also the same. She will use the Gates-MacGinitie diagnostic tests on a quarterly basis to check students’ reading progress.
This year our five required areas for improvement are: Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Parental Involvement.
The NCLB Writing goal is 3.0; however, the State’s goal is 3.5.
The next EESAC meeting will be September 8, 2004 at 3:45 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:24 p.m.
