Verified EESAC Meeting Minutes

Approval of minutes: Mr. Sands called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m. The minutes from February 23, 2021, were reviewed and approved.

SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Process (SIP). Mr. Rivers reported that on March 03, 2021, the faculty met and discuss the 2021-2022 Educational Excellence School Advisory Councils (EESAC) Waivers. There were no contract waivers or alternative supplement model waivers (ASM) requested. The faculty voted to continue the block schedule; 98 percent in favor of the block schedule. Miss Elliot asked for clarification about the rotating block schedule, and Mr. Rivers said that matter will be discussed by the faculty but that he is in favor of resuming the rotating block format next school year. Mr. Rivers said that eighth-grade parents on EESAC need to notify him so they can be replaced and the PTSA can fill those vacancies for next school year.

Official business: The EESAC voted to approve the SIP report from Mr. Rivers.

Principal’s Message: Mrs. Stroleny said we have had a very successful March. On March 4 we received Spacemaker furniture in the Media Center and it was provided with District funds. The Superintendent's 5K run took place virtually from March 6-13 and Mr. Hudson served as captain. On March 12, team leaders Mrs. Small and Mrs. Daniels sponsored a pizza party for eighth-graders. Mr. Springer, head custodian, DJ'ed the event. Hoodies for eighth-graders should arrive soon. Team leaders are working on details for the eighth-grade banquet as we are waiting for directions from the District. On March 13, the 46th annual Friends of Carver, a historic event, was conducted as a virtual gala. During March, students in the German program took the written and oral components of the national DSD1 Exams from the German government. During March, many teachers and staff have been receiving COVID vaccinations. March 17 is St Patrick’s Day. Currently, 60 percent of our students are physical with 40 percent online (MSO). We are monitoring student progress through grades, iReady, MYA, and attendance, and we have brought some struggling students back to the physical classroom. We have finished all formal observations. Teaching and learning is taking place. Mrs. Stroleny said she is very proud of the Carver family—teachers, students, parents, staff—everyone has done much heavy lifting and our results reflect that. Mrs. Rivera has been working on the master schedule for next year. The calendar and schedule are returning to normal for next year. The Student Services Department is working on the Sandy Hook -- See something, Say Something program. Kudos to our Student Services Department as they have worked tirelessly with our families, students, and staff to support everyone’s mental wellness. The District’s magnet random selection results came out March 15. Mrs. Basso is working on bringing in our sixth-grade class. Mr. Rivers is working on student awards, recognitions, and honors for 2020-2021. He has created next year’s student agenda and is spearheading everything regarding the SIP. Mrs. Castillo has developed our testing calendar; MSO students are invited to testing and we hope they will attend. March 25 is the end of the third marking period. March 26 is a teacher planning day. Spring recess is March 29-April 2. The FSA Writing assessment will take place on April 5/6 (grade 6), April 7/8 (grade 7) and
April 9/12 (grade 8), with physical students of each grade on the first date and MSO on the second. In May we have all other assessments for FSA, EOC, and AP.

Open Forum: Mr. Rivers said the math and science departments are wrapping up pre-readiness tests to determine which students qualify for advanced courses (Algebra I and Physical Science) next year. Sixth-grade parents have received notice of required immunizations for seventh grade. Mrs. Rodriguez asked how that information was distributed, Mr. Rivers said it was sent by email and that parents need to have their correct email on file. Mr. Sands said he is happy to have all student EESAC representatives present today and that Student Council elections will take place in April.
