Verified EESAC Meeting Minutes

Approval of minutes: Mr. Sands called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m. The minutes from June 1, 2021, were reviewed and approved.
SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Process (SIP). Mr. Rivers passed around a draft of the SIP. He mentioned that the document is fluid and can change as needed/applicable. The District is using a different platform for the 2021-2022 school year. He said that he is familiar with the platform. The SIP team and leadership team identified areas of focus: two for Instructional Practice, one for Culture and Environment, and one for Leadership. We used all available data at the time to develop these areas of focus. For each area of focus, we had to develop four action steps. For example, one area of focus is data-driven instruction, which relies upon assessment, analysis, and instruction to meet students’ needs with measurable outcomes to show that this is being achieved. We allow teachers to use multiple measures to determine whether each student is meeting the goals, not just FSA data. Teachers work as teams to discuss best practices. We had to do this process for each of the areas of focus. At midyear review, we can amend this document to meet our needs. Mr. Sands inquired about the staff members that comprise the Synergy team. Mr. Rivers provided the names of the team members - Mrs. Stroleny, Mr. Rivers, Mrs. Castro, Mrs. Brown, and Mr. Hudson. All available data was used to develop the areas of focus on the SIP and the action steps required. The SIP will include 16 action steps. All departments had input toward the areas of focus and action steps. The 2021-22 EESAC Assurances and Signature Page was discussed; al appropriate signatures were obtained. Mr. Rivers said there are no plans for hybrid (physical/Zoom) EESAC meetings for now. Mrs. Artime said physical meetings are necessary for voting.

Principal’s Message: Mrs. Artime said she is honored, humbled and blessed to be here to welcome in the 2021-22 school year, adding, “I am here to serve. Feel free to reach out if you need anything.” A construction update was provided. Site drainage flooding work is concluding. Chiller lines are being worked on for Rooms 1-13 and building 12. The fire alarm is being replaced. Some students have had COVID, and we are quarantining those in direct contact. Teachers are keeping cameras on with Zoom for those on quarantine. A parent asked about the quarantine protocol, and Mrs. Artime said students with proof of being fully vaccinated can remain in school. A PTA fundraiser is tonight at Sports Grill in South Miami. Mrs. Artime is doing a Sunday message for parents each week. Baseline testing in science is upcoming; Civics completed its baseline testing last week.
Open Forum: Mrs. Vinat said that she likes the Areas of Focus on the SIP as it is teacher-led/student-centered with an emphasis on staff morale and student activities this year to fulfill many of the objectives. Mr. Sands had all members introduce themselves. Members of the Spanish Embassy ae visiting on Sept. 1. Mr. Sands said Student Council can help with the visit. Dr. Garcia said more than 20 students participated last year in eCYBERMISSION and did extremely well in the Florida competition and one team placed first in the Southeast. Mrs. Daniels gave a sports update. Cross country is starting. We are looking for coaches, possibly using coaches from other schools. Dr. Garcia said the outdoor classroom needs repairs and that we are looking for artistic talent to do a mosaic mural on the wall.
