Verified EESAC Meeting Minutes

Approval of minutes: Mr. Sands called the meeting to order at 8:15 a.m. The minutes from March 15, 2022, were reviewed and approved.

SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Process (SIP). Mr. Rivers said Microsoft certification is taking place with select students, and that Mrs. Toledo’s students have always had high passing rates. We have a testing meeting today with the entire faculty and have submitted our testing plan to the district. The FSA writing assessment is April 4-11. We are in the middle of the SIP and may make adjustments after the testing season. State testing results are usually published during the summer but we will have AP3 iReady data before school is out. After the faculty meeting today, we will post the testing schedule on our website for parents and students. Mr. Sands said we finished the Civics midyear examination and did exceptionally well. We are still teaching and reviewing, as the Civics EOC is May 12-13.

Principal’s Message: Mrs. Artime invited all to the Beauty and the Beast performance on March 16. The same group performed at the recent Town Hall meeting and dedicated their performance to the children of Ukraine. Mrs. Harmon went out of her way to prepare her students who used their voices as instruments. Carver is a very special place academically, athletically and for the arts. Arts education is important, and we value those programs. The STEAM visitation took place, and Mrs. Artime commended Mrs. Lewellyn, Mrs. Driggs, and Mrs. Toledo for their perfect 5.0 lessons that were observed by the STEAM visitation team. We are having some problems with air conditioning and lighting in the new building. Ms. Rivas is still displaced from her classroom.

Open Forum: Mrs. Vinat said about 15 FEA members are shadowing teachers. The Social Studies mandate theme this month is “Women promoting healing and hope.” Social Studies classes are promoting a district essay contest. The new goal for UTD is a referendum this November promoting education. Mrs. Daniels said students are completing a fitness posttest this week. Girls’ flag football season ended; basketball, golf, and tennis are ongoing. Thirteen students tried out for the golf team, but we could keep only six. Mr. Sands said students may submit letters of intent to run for Student Council office. On April 12, we will hold our annual campaign convention, followed by elections on April 13 and 14 through Social Studies classes. The PTSA is holding its general meeting tomorrow and the book fair is after spring break. A donut sale to help pay for the eighth-grade banquet is Friday. Mr. Hudson reported that more than 300 students entered their writing in the Do the Write Thing Challenge. The winning boy and girl from the county will win a trip to the national convention in Washington, D.C. this summer.
