Verified EESAC Meeting Minutes

Approval of minutes: Mr. Sands called the meeting to order at 8:10 a.m. The minutes from December 14, 2021, were reviewed and approved.

SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Process (SIP). Mr. Rivers said we are at the midyear point of the SIP; he explained the mid-year review process. Previously, we examined our action steps by reviewing data and adding two action steps. Now we must utilize more data to add two more steps and answer questions to gauge our progress at to decide whether we must make changes. We examined the action steps to determine their effectiveness in meeting our intended outcomes. Mr. Rivers passed around the document with the new action steps. Mr. Sands noted that the Civics midyear assessment is Feb. 3-4, and it enables us to track student progress on the tested benchmarks; we will complete the curriculum by mid-May. Floridastudents.org provides a tool of remediation for civics. Mrs. Rios noted that algebra and geometry students do not take iReady and that some sixth- and seventh-graders have not finished the testing.

Principal’s Message: Mrs. Artime said she is proud of all of our students and their accomplishments. We have finalist in various science and academic competitions. Three teams will compete in the Geography and History Bees. This Saturday we had a great turnout for Carver service day as tables were donated and work was done in the iPrep garden. Student Services week begins Feb. 7. A dine-out fundraiser is tonight at Anthony’s Pizza. Tree trimming taking place and work on cafeteria are taking place. Our Covid situation is getting better; we moved the grade 8 field trip to Feb. 11. Yoga is taking place two days weekly with Mrs. Byrd’s daughter Katherine leading the program; she is a former Carver student. Our new superintendent is Dr. Dotres. Dr. Lewis from the region visited yesterday to see our campus and meet with administration. Mrs. Bonduel is filling Mrs. Castro’s position as Dean of Students to help with discipline, activities, and field trips. Mr. Springer is leaving, and Mrs. Walker will replace him as head custodian. Mrs. Rente is our new counselor. Mrs. Valdes is starting a new board-gaming activity on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays before school in the cafeteria. We are still looking for one community representative for EESAC.

Open Forum: Mrs. Daniels said we are currently in track and field season and have completed one Saturday meet where both the boys’ and girls’ teams won first place. This Saturday is the qualifying meet for the finals on Feb. 5. Softball season begins on Jan. 26. Girls’ flag football season has begun. Sixth-grade Spike-it-up was a success last week. Golf, tennis, and soccer are upcoming. Mr. Hudson said the Superintendent’s 5K run is on March 5 and is open to students and adults. Mrs. Daniels said that several students will run the final 1.2 miles to complete the Miami Marathon on Feb. 6. Mr. Gutierrez said that he is working to prepare the uniform order for track team. Mrs. Vinat said that FEA is supporting Black History Month with a digital scavenger hunt with QR codes. There will be 10 winners. FEA is presenting a Teacher of Month and a Student of the Month. Mateo. Delgado said he plans to speak with Ms. Basso about a tutoring program whereby students can earn community service hours. He said the plan is to offer both physical and virtual tutoring. Mrs. Artime said that Mrs. Gheza has opened the media center in three mornings each week and can supervise tutors.
