Meeting called to order at 8:05 AM

1. Welcome
2. Approval of minutes for June 6, 2022 meeting.

3. Principal’s message
• The 8th grade Islands of Adventure trip was changed to February 3, 2023.
• Ms. Mustelier was elected Teacher of the Year.
• Town Hall meeting scheduled for today at 6:30 PM at Coral Gables High School.
• Presentation on teacher salary ranking. The State of Florida is ranked 48 of 50. Referendum #210 is to support teacher compensation and school safety. Teacher pay is in the top 5 in the state of Florida. 290 police officers have been hired. $1 million is needed to maintain investment already made in Miami-Dade County. The referendum is for the renewal of the $1 million and is on the ballot for a vote on November 8, 2022. The bill is expected to increase a typical homeowner’s taxes from $14 to $20 for a typical homeowner.
• Six to seven teachers are planning on retiring at the end of the school year. Our teachers are very well valued at Carver and filling their places will be difficult. The average salary for a teacher is $49,102. Number 210 is to be remembered.
• EESAC member training is scheduled for November 8, 2023 from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. This training is open to parents, administrations, and teachers interested in learning about EESAC, the purpose and the expectation. Mr. Rivers will facilitate registration.
4. School Improvement Process (monitoring, implementation, review, etc.)
The 2022-23 School Improvement Process (SIP) signature page needed to be amended; name correction. Currently in the middle of the impact review. The review is due on Friday, October 14, 2022.

1. Nominations for EESAC Secretary
 The EESAC Secretary is to revise the meeting minutes each meeting. All minutes will be published in a place where Miami-Dade County has access. Motion raised to nominate Ms. Jay Rosario.

2. Verify 2022-2023 EESAC Stakeholders
The EESAC Committee is in need of a second business representative.
1. Proposals by Dr. G. Garcia and Mrs. M. Vinat
• The Social Studies Department participates in many contests, Caribbean Heritage, Hispanic Heritage, Black History Month, Women’s Month, amongst other essay writing and door decorating contests. Mrs. M. Vinat was not in attendance, but her request was represented by Ms. Artime, and she proposed a $600 allocation for the Social Studies Team to purchase gift cards for student volunteers.

• Dr. Garcia put together the Outdoor Classroom Wishlist. He is requesting to purchase wooden barrels with no markings at a cost of $54/per gallon. The labor for the project will be provided by Mr. Garcia and volunteers. Mrs. Sellem had ideas for the outdoor classroom. The PTSA has slated funds for the project and created a committee to work with the teachers.
1. Faculty and Student United Way Campaigns
• Jar Wars for United Way begins on Monday, October 17, 2022, amongst all grade levels. The jars will be placed in The Media Center. Winning grade level receives one (1) week Miami-Dade Public Schools approved attire in lieu of uniforms.
1. Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony (February 24, 2023)
• The honor ceremony is being brought back and will acknowledge a distinguished alumni. PTSA to announce the Hall of Fame Ceremony in the monthly newsletter.
6. Announcements
• PTSA discussed the creation of the Safety and Security Committee. Their first meeting is scheduled for October 11, 2022 at 9:30 AM EST.
• Sports are up and running (a lot of spirit) academically/sports are excelling. Volleyball starts on Monday, October 17, 2022.
• The Book Fair sold $7,442.28 and netted $1,860.57 for the school. Ms. Artime is proud to be the best customer. The Book Fair is open for 2 more weeks online (scholastic.com). The monies earned from the Book Fair were used to sponsor the staff luncheon held on Monday, October 10, 2022. The Spring Book Fair is scheduled for March 2023.
7. Open Forum
• Sweatpants/jeans Friday: Ms. Isabella Navaro, the student’s representative requested to make the last Friday of the month jeans/sweatpants day (or every other Friday). Ms. Artime committed to speaking with the Curriculum Council for recommendation.
• Longer intervals: The student’s representatives are requesting 2-3 minute intervals between lunches to accommodate return to class. Ms. Artime proposed sending an email advising teachers of when students should travel to class.
