II. Approval of minutes for October 11, 2022 meeting. Motion by Ms. Toledo Second by Patricia Jaramillo.
III. Principal’s message
IV. School Improvement Process (monitoring, implementation, review, etc.)
A. Impact Review and Areas of Focus: ELA, Science, Positive Culture & Environment, and Transformational Leadership
B. Administrators of ELA will give extra curriculum working opportunity:
1. Ms. Ramirez is holding a study hall for 6th grade students on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
2. Study Hall will be held in the Media Center on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM EST.
3. Mrs. Toledo will hold I-Ready workshops on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM EST.
4. Mrs. Castellano will facilitate extra study time on Mondays and Wednesdays.
5. Mrs. Gharamani, Mrs. Bonduel and Mrs. Castellano are the leadership teachers for Orange Bowl Leadership. It is held every other Monday from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM EST.
6. For Physical Honors, some chosen seventh graders will take tests to boost average test scores for school.
7. Mrs. Ramirez has organized the Safety Patrol club.
8. If a student wants to have a club, they can create a club with a teacher sponsor.
9. Carver has many additional clubs this year and in general many club opportunities. Students should look to Ms. Airtime for rules and procedure.
10. The girls volleyball team is undefeated. The cross-country team did really well. The track and field season is starting. The boys soccer team is going into finals soon. The girls soccer team had a great season.
11. The Spanish consultant is here today.
12. The German program is having the DSD 1 Ceremony on December 6, 2022.
13. The Spelling Bee will be held in the auditorium.
14. Winston Scott is scheduled to visit Carver.
15. Mr. Gutierrez and Mr. Alvarez represented the school at the Parent Academy.
16. Color Wars: Administration has contacted other schools about the Color Wars and determined it is not a good opportunity for middle school setting because of the block schedule.
17. Another activity is replacing Spring Social for Valentines on Feb 14, 2023.
18. The money donated for Give Miami Day can be used to make a mural in or around the school. A hut for the custodian. Additional benches for outside dining or to be put in other areas such as the piazza. Cheerleaders can try to convince parents into donating and fundraising for Media Center and other causes
V. New business
A. Hall of Fame. The committee is checking applications and discussing inductees. The Inductee Ceremony is scheduled for 24 February 2023. The ceremony will consist of a luncheon in the old cafeteria, a walk through the hallways.
B. Jar wars was most successful (was submitted to United Way)
C. The Student Council is currently organizing Kick It Up for 7th grade and in the future Spike It Up (March 17, 2023) for 6th grade, and Hoop It Up (December 22, 2022) for 8th grade. It will be $3, per period.
D. The 7th grade Field trip to Dave & Buster's is scheduled for January 13, 2023.
E. Received $181,000 dollars from the district. This is two-time more than what has been received in the past.
F. Tree planting today, Coastal Redwood Sequoia from Daniel Rodriguez
G. New bathrooms open
H. Painters are here to repaint
I. The PTSA will sponsor Honor Roll student loans.
1. 124 straight A’s students
2. 522 straight A’s in conduct
J. 7th grade no-uniform day is scheduled for December 1, 2022. 8th grade is scheduled for December 8, 2022.
K. Donate to Give Miami Day. If $20,000 is donated. The students will get another no-uniform day and the money will go to the Media Center.
L. Media Center is being refurbished by Mrs. Chung and Office Aid
M. The Eighth Grade reading list is being revised and changed. Parents will be notified of the changes. The school book store will sell the books to students.
