Welcome
Ms. Artime welcomed the council and thanked them for their continuous support.

Approval of previous minutes
The minutes from the previous meeting were approved.

Principal’s Message
Ms. Artime reported that the PTSA planned and hosted a spectacular event (Friends of Carver) to raise money for the middle and elementary schools. She also mentioned that last week was National Assistant Principal’s week – Mr. Alvarez and Mr. Rivers were celebrated. She reiterated that the school’s safety and security continue to be of utmost importance.

School Improvement Process (SIP)
Mr. Rivers provided an update on the 2022-2023 SIP. The End-Of-Year (EOY) Review is due June 02, 2023. The EOY review will reflect our strengths and opportunities for improvement as it relates to the action steps that we have implemented throughout the school year.

School Climate Survey
Mr. Rivers reminded the parents to complete the School Climate Survey. The link to the survey was sent to parents via SchoolMessenger. The window for the survey closes on May 05, 2023. Mr. Rivers also mentioned that the students and teachers are also participating in the survey; administered to students during their Social Studies class. Stakeholder inputs is valued and is used to make informed administrative decisions for our school community.

Awards Ceremonies
The 2022-23 awards ceremonies are scheduled for May 30 (6th grade at 2:30 pm), May 31 (7th grade at 10:30 am; 8th grade at 2:30 pm). An additional award ceremony for the 8th grade International Studies students is scheduled for June 01, 2023. Invitations will be sent to the parents of the students being honored.

Take Our Sons and Daughters To Work
Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) will observe the National Take Our Sons And Daughters To Work Day on Thursday, April 27, 2023. This nationally recognized program encourages boys and girls (ages 8-18) to accompany their parents, mentors, or guardians to work. By doing so, students are provided with a hands-on, interactive experience that allows them to connect their classroom education to the work world. Parents must complete a field trip form and return it to their child’s homeroom teacher on or before April 24, 2023 if they wish to participate.

Field Day
The Spring Social, originally scheduled for February, will be held on April 14, 2023. The team leaders have planned activities for the respective grade levels. 6th grade activities will be held on the field. 7th grade activities will be held in the gymnasium. 8th grade activities will be held in the cafeteria.

Student Council Elections
The student council convention is scheduled for April 24, 2023. During the convention, the candidates will deliver speeches in an attempt to garner support for their platform and the positions that they are seeking. Students will be voting for the candidates on April 25 – 26 during the Social Studies classes.

UTD Updates
Ms. Vinat thanked the parents for their support of teachers. She also informed the council of the Future Educators of America (FEA) teacher shadow day. During this event, students will shadow a teacher of their choice for the entire school day. Ms. Vinat also informed te council that the FEA will host a breakfast for teachers on May 12, 2023.

STEAM Updates
Dr. Garcia informed the council that G. W. Carver Middle School had two student representatives at the state Science and Engineering Fair. He also mentioned that three of our students compete for the Broad Com award – highest level competition for middle school students).

Announcements
• Bootcamp and tutoring for the upcoming assessments will start shortly;
some have started. Flyers with additional information will be sent to
parents.
• The Golf team were runners-up at the Youth Fair match.
• State testing starts in May. More details are forthcoming and will be
shared with students and parents.
• The boys basketball team celebrated a victory against Ada Merritt on
April 10, 2023.
• A zoom meeting, hosted by Miami-Dade College, for parents interested in
learning about dual enrollment will be held April 13, 2023. Ms. Valdes
will ensure that the link is provided to parents.
• We will be providing coffee and donuts for our fathers/father figures in
honor of Fathers in Education Day. Additional information will be sent
to all families.
• We will host a breakfast for our volunteers on April 18, 2023. The event
will be held in the media center.
• Earth Day activities will convene next week. Ms. Mustelier and Ms.
Sellem have been working diligently to plan activities for our students
and staff.
• The PTSA will host a beautification day on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from
9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
