Minutes from the previous meeting were approved.

School Improvement Process (monitoring, implementation, review, etc.) -
Mr. Rivers provided an update related to the End-Of-Year (EOY) Reflection, Phase VI of the School Improvement Process (SIP). The process is a collaborative effort between the teachers and the School Leadership team. It includes a review of Phases I through V to determine if we met our Intended Goal for each of the identified Areas of Focus. Additionally, the action steps of each Area of Focus are reviewed to determine (1) which step/steps led to the successful outcomes [Strengths] and (2) which step/steps did not lead to successful outcomes [Opportunities for Improvement]. The completed 2022-2023 Continuous Improvement Reflection Worksheet was shared and discussed with the council.

Mr. Rivers discussed the purpose and importance of the Professional Learning Needs Assessment for School Improvement; to reflect on the impact of the professional development sessions offered this school year and to start planning for the upcoming school year. Mr. Sands remarked on the importance of completing the survey. Reminded the council, specifically the teachers, that the deadline to complete the survey is Friday, June 02, 2023.

2022-23 End Of Year (EOY) EESAC Requirements -
Mr. Rivers shared a copy of the current EESAC Bylaws with the council for review and discussion. He reminded the council of the “terms” as outlined in the Bylaws. In doing so, he advised the council that the student and teacher representatives for the 2023-24 school year have been elected.

Mr. Rivers also discussed the EESAC’s current composition. After the document was reviewed, the council decided not to make any changes; no need to submit a request (to the District) if a change is not required.

Lastly, Mr. Rivers reviewed the 2023 End Of Year (EOY) Assurance Checklist. The requirements, as outlined on the checklist, were discussed.

Old / New Business -
Mr. Rivers informed the council that the 2022-23 awards ceremonies are scheduled for May 30 (grade 6) and May 31 (grades 7 and 8). Invitations for the student being recognized have been sent home. The International Awards ceremony for grade 8 is scheduled for June 01.

Student Council convention and elections have ended. Mr. Sands introduced and welcomed the newly elected EESAC student representatives and the student alternate. The officers for 2023-2024 school year were announced to the students and staff.

Mr. Rivers made a motion asking the EESAC to fund the incentives (medals) that will be issued to the students during the International Awards ceremony. The motion was moved and seconded.

Dr. G. Garcia provided an update related to our S.T.E.A.M. efforts. The school has been observed by the District’s S.T.E.A.M. committee. We are in the process of collecting the professional development evidence/certificates from the S.T.E.A.M. teachers. Additionally, we are compiling the necessary documents that must be uploaded to the District. When testing has concluded, the school-wide data will also be uploaded to the District.

Announcements / Open Forum -
Ms. Daniels reported that the middle school sports are done for the school year. The basketball team made it to the 1st round of the playoffs. The golf team were county runners-up. The tennis team finished the season as county champions.

Sarah Schurer remarked about this year’s implementation of mindfulness. She mentioned that only a few of her teachers incorporated the mindfulness practices into the lesson/classroom. Mr. Sands thanked her for her comment and he will share her thoughts with the Leadership Team.
