Old/New business
A. Carver Hall of Fame Nominee(s) – Ms. Leona Cooper-Baker, a longtime resident
of Coconut Grove and Carver alum, will be this year’s inductee. Ms. Cooper-
Baker will be honored and recognized during our annual alumni event on
February 24, 2023.
B. Civics Parent Workshop (2nd meeting) – the Social Studies department will host
another Civics workshop for parents on December 14th at 4 pm. Information has
been shared with all 7th grade students and their parents.
C. Hoop It Up Basketball Tournament (December 22nd) – Hoop-It-Up is an annual
event for grade 8 students. Students are allowed to compose a team of 5
players (may have alternates) and compete against other grade 8 students. The
event is held in the gymnasium during the first and last block. Spectators
are allowed to attend the event – first block or last block. Space is
limited.
D. Florida School Recognition Funds – this item has been tabled until the next
EESAC meeting.
E. Reinstatement of student outdoor lunch seating – Some students and parents
have been asking to the administrators to reinstate the outdoor seating during
lunch. This was established during the height of the COVID-19 crisis to
provide spacing and as little close-contact with others as possible. It was
effective due to the number of students that were attending school physically;
a large population of students were attending school virtually. Once all
students were required to return to school, the outdoor seating during lunch
became an issue – classes that were in session during lunch were being disturb
by the students eating outside. Additionally, students were leaving the
area(s) in disarray.
