Verified EESAC Meeting Minutes

Ms. Artime welcomed the council (and guests) and provided a synopsis of her Sunday Message. The Sunday message outlines any upcoming events and announcements about the happenings at Carver.

Previous minutes was reviewed and approved.

Ms. Artime informed the council that our students have completed the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) Progress Monitoring (PM) 2 for English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics.

We will begin i-Ready (AP-2) next week for the selected groups. The window opens January 30, 2023 and ends February 24, 2023. Mr. Rivers added that AP-2 for Reading is required for all students in grades K-8. AP-2 for Mathematics is required for all students in grades K-8 except for those enrolled in Algebra or Geometry; these students have a District-developed mid-year assessment.
February is designated as Black History Month. The school have a variety of activities planned during the month of February – Black History trivia, poster contest, scavenger hunts, etc. Some of the activities are contest; students will be able to earn extra credit, certificates, or a gift card. Our 2022-23 Hall of Fame inductee will be recognized during the month of February. Additionally, our annual Alumni Day will be held during this month. Additional information regarding the Hall of Fame and Alumni Day is forthcoming.

Mr. Rivers provided updates regarding the School Improvement Process (SIP). The Leadership Team, in conjunction with the teachers, have completed the Mid-Year Review / Reflection. We were tasked with reviewing our SIP using our mid-year data maps, as well as qualitative and quantitative data to provide evidence of our progress and outcomes. The process included reflecting on data find finding(s) that are encouraging and concerning. The feedback from the review was compiled (Mid-Year Reflection) and is due to be submitted on or before January 27, 2023. Phase V – Implementation Plan 3 is from January 30, 2023 – April 28, 2023.

Spike-It-Up (grade 6 event) is scheduled for March 17th.

The District has added Boys Flag Football as a sport for middle school. Ms. Daniels (Coach D) is requesting for money to purchase the jerseys. A total of $698.75 needed. No objection to the motion.

The Spring Book Fair preview is scheduled for March 4th. The following Monday will start the book fair. We received $2,358 and an additional 25% discount available through scholastic from the previous book fair sales.

Dry-fit polyester shirt and green shorts with a logo may be the uniform for Physical Education classes/ next school year. They will be more expensive than the current uniform. However, they provide better protection against the heat.

The administrations will be revisiting the uniform policy. Students have been violating the policy by altering their shorts – folding them at the waist and rolling up the hems which makes them very short and inappropriate for school.

Friends Of Carver gala will be held in April at the Newman Alumni Center on the campus of the University of Miami. Additional information will be provided to faculty, staff, and parents. A Zoom meeting has been scheduled for January 26, 2023.
