Approval of previous minutes
 The munites from the previous EESAC meeting were accepted and approved.

School Improvement Process (SIP) –
 Mr. Rivers provided an update to the School Improvement Process (SIP).
 We are currently in Phase II of the SIP.
 Impact Review will take place October 02, 2023 – October 23, 2023.
 Additional information regarding the Impact Review will be discussed at
our next EESAC meeting.
 The 2023-2023 School Improvement Process (SIP) Signature was reviewed and
signed by the appropriate members.
 The EESAC by-laws were reviewed and updated.

Old / New Business –
 Ms. Artime mentioned that Ms. Baltimore will start today. She will be
filling the vacant French position.
 Ms. Artime mentioned that we are in the process of filling our Science
position; at the time, we have been using the same temporary instructor
to maintain a sense of consistency with the instruction.
 Ms. Artime mentioned the Brag About My School campaign and encouraged
students, parents, teacher, and other stakeholders to share the Carver
experiences via social media - #bragaboutmyschool; #mdcpsyourbestchoice;
carvermiddmdcps; @mdcpscentral.
 Student Sports & Activities - funding for student activities was
discussed, including proposed and planned field trips, including 8th
grade celebratory events that are in the preliminary stages of planning.
 Additional information on the S.T.E.A.M project from Dr. Garcia is
forthcoming.
 Key dates for upcoming sports tryouts and requirements mentioned.
 As it relates to student activities and sports, it is critical to
encourage students to take personal interest and responsibility for the
sports/activities they wish to participate in. All upcoming student
activities, including sport tryouts, are mentioned in the morning
announcements. It is the student’s responsibility to follow up with
specific teacher/coach, etc. and be proactive about the activities they
wish to be involved in. This not only helps build confidence and promote
independence and responsibility, but it also eliminates parent
uncertainty and unnecessary back-and-force parent/school exchange.
 Morning announcements are emailed to parents that have signed up to
receive them. It was suggested that we make it easier for parents to find
announcements and other school-related information generally. Searching
through emails can be cumbersome and time consuming but if we can
identify a specific place (school website, social media, PTA website,
etc.) where parents can obtain all necessary school information
seamlessly (and with less clicks and digging) perhaps we could engage for
more parents while also promoting more transparency.
 PTSA Representative. Angela Rodriguez provided a brief update on the
upcoming PTSA meeting, in addition to some of the proposed and planned
upcoming events. Islands of Adventure trip to Orlando for 8th graders,
and D.C. field trip for 7th grade was highlighted. The importance of
“Mini Grants” for teachers was discussed.
 PTSA is very close to reaching its goal of 1,000 memberships. As an
incentive, a “No Homework on Halloween” competition is being promoted. If
the PTSA confirms 1,000 memberships by the end of the month the entire
student body will not have homework assigned on October 31st.
 Awards. General discussion about awards for teachers and students and how
to acknowledge them in a memorable and meaningful manner.
 On-Going School Projects. General discussion about issues with
construction overhangs and projects.
 Zayli Rodriguez, a parent, volunteered to be the new ESSAC secretary
representative.
