Approval of previous minutes.
School Improvement Process (monitoring, implementation, review, etc.), Mr. S. Rivers, Assistant Principal.
•The Leadership Team is preparing for the Mid-Year Reflection.
•The purpose of the Mid-Year Reflection is to facilitate discussion with the
school leadership team and monitor and assess the progress made in the Areas of
Focus targeted within the School Improvement Plan (SIP).
Protecting Students’ Rights Training Module
- Staff members were given an overview regarding our obligation to protect
students’ rights on December 06, 2023. Staff members not in attendance will
need to see Ms. Artime for instructions regarding make-up day(s).
School Culture Survey
- The window for teachers and students to complete the School Culture Survey is
December 04, 2023 – January 12, 2024. The surveys are anonymous and the data
collected from staff and students will be used to populate the 2023-24 SIP
Dashboard that will be created for each school to inform Phase V Mid-Year
Review of the School Improvement Process.
Extracurricular and Supplemental Parental Consent Form.
•The District has created a new form (Extracurricular and Supplemental Parental
Consent Form) that requires parent consent for school-sponsored,
extracurricular and supplemental on-campus activities before, during, and after
school.
•The authorization must include the nature of the event or activity, the date(s)
and time(s) of the specific activity or event, specific location(s) and type(s)
of sponsors/guests at the event or activity, method of student supervision
provided, such as anticipated number of chaperones.
•Supplemental activities include club meetings and events, guest speakers,
college representative visits, tutoring and enrichment sessions provided by the
school, school dances.
Safety And Security Protocols
- Staff members were reminded of the District’s safety and security protocols
(memo from Dr. Pace). Some of the items discussed were: keeping doors closed
and locked, reinforcing the challenge and check system for visitors, visibility
of the Administrative Team and other key personnel (e.g. security monitors,
SROs), lockdown and evacuation procedures.
Project Adam-Heart Safe Facility Drill
- G. W. Carver Middle School was selected to take part in the Project Adam –
Heart Safety Facility Drill. The initiative was originated from the
Superintendent’s office and includes a partnership with Nicklaus Children’s
Hospital; it will provide school staff with essential skills to effectively
manage sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) situations.
Old/New business
- FAST EOC Updates
The window for F.A.S.T. PM-2 is December 04, 2023 – January 26, 2024. Ms. C
Castillo is working on the schedule for our students/school.
- Color Run
The Color Run is scheduled for December 21, 2023. The PTSA is working closely
with the administrative team to make this a fun-filled event for our students.
Details regarding the event are forthcoming.
- Hall of Fame Update
The 2024 Hall of Fame recipient is Mrs. Shirley Richardson. Mr. Sands will be
contacting the recipient and providing them with details regarding the Hall of
Fame program / Alumni Day.
- Washington D. C. Update
The dates for the Washington DC field trip are April 25, 26, and 27, 2024. Mr
Sands and Ms. Garcia are the field trip sponsors and will be working on the
details for the event.
