Approval of previous minutes

 

- Mr. Rivers discussed the following waivers for the 2024-25 school year:
*Labor Contract Waiver: modifying the existing waiver to reflect having
faculty meetings in the mornings.
*Alternative Supplement Model Waiver (ASM): no changes to the current waiver
*Block Schedule
*Faculty has voted on the aforementioned waivers; EESAC approves waivers.
- Mr. Rivers provided a SIP update. He discussed Phase VI, which is fastly
approaching.
- The annual Friends of Carver Gala will be held February 24, 2024. The proceeds
from the fundraiser will be shared between G. W. Carver Middle School and G. W.
Carver Elementary School.

 

Announcements/ Open Forums:

 

- Black History Month activities:
*Poster contest
*Hall of Fame / Alumni Day; Shirley Jackson will be inducted.
- Washington D.C. field trip has been approved at will take place in April.
Additional information – cost, criteria for students, etc. – is forthcoming.
- Dr. Garcia is our S.T.E.A.M. liaison. We are preparing for the S.T.E.A.M.
visit, which will be virtual.
- Mid-year assessment for 8th grade (selected subjects) are in progress.
- G. W. Carver participated at the District’s S.T.E.A.M. expo; 2 of our students
will compete at the state level.
- Youth Fair robotics competition coming up in March.
- French and German consulate will be visiting the school this month.
- Girls and Boys Track and Field season has ended. Our school and students
finished the season with several awards.
- Ms. Daniels mentioned that the score board in the gymnasium is in need of
repair.
- We will be announcing tryout dates for Tennis and Golf.
- Bowling has finished.
- Subject selection forms for next school year will be distributed via the
Language classes.

 

UTD updates:
- Ms. Vinat discussed the role of the United Teachers of Dade and how parents can
support their cause.
