- Welcome

- Approval of previous minutes
*The minutes from the last EESAC minute were accepted and approved.

- Principal Message
*Hosted Magnet School America visit. G.W. Carver has been recognized as one of
the top magnet school’s in the nation. The winner will be announced in April
at the Magnet Schools of America conference in NY.
*Including Carver, 5-8 schools were visited across the nation. Candidates were
selected based on application, student achievement, etc. Delegation visited
classrooms, met with teachers, etc.
*March 11th - Curriculum council meeting
*March 13-15th - Matilda Play in Auditorium. Must buy tickets on OSP.
*March 15th - Musical students are performing for Carver Elementary School.
(Free performance for students and teachers.) Special cameo performance by one
of our administrators.
*March 15th students allowed to wear can wear jeans or Carver sweatpants (last
Friday of the month -before Spring Break) and can wear green Carver shirts or
uniform green shirt.
*March 18th – Hazel Garcia, Mental Health Professional, will host/facilitate a
workshop for parents regarding mental health. The workshop will be held in
the auditorium at 9:30 am.
*March 19th Dine out by PTSA at Coral Gables Anthony’s Coal Fire Pizza
*April 2nd and 3rd – the foreign language teachers will administer “mock” AP
exams in preparation for May testing.
*April 4th and 5th writing assessment – all grades English Language Arts (ELA)
writing exam.
*Administrators will be facilitating data chats with the Science, Mathematics,
and Social Studies teachers/departments; reviewing class/student performance
and creating action plans and strategies for remediation and/or accelerations.
*We are in the process of securing a part-time Italian teacher for the
remainder of the school year and for the upcoming school year.
*Interviewing part time Italian teacher 10:30am-3:50pm Mon-Fri to start
immediately, if possible, to support Ms. Navarra in preparation for the
upcoming Italian AP Exams.
*Next year Carver’s Italian program will include Italian IE. Over 60 kids on
the IE waitlist thus far.

- Old/New business
*SIP Update by Mr. Rivers. He discussed Phase VI – End-Of-Year Implementation
and Impact Review.
*April 25th - the District will recognize Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work
Day. Students that opt to participate will be required to return a signed,
parent permission form.
*End of Year Award Ceremony Dates:
May 28th 6th grade award ceremony @ 2:30 pm
May 29th 7th grade award ceremony @ 10:30 am
May 29th 8th grade award ceremony @ 2:30 pm
June 3rd International Award Day (only 8th grade). Awards will be issued by
the Consuls of the various programs in recognition of the students’
completing the program. Times to be announced and vary depending on
language program.
Parents will receive invitations to the various ceremonies.

*School Climate Survey sent this week – Students/parents/teachers participate.
Information for parents will be sent via SchoolMessenger. Students will
complete the surveys in class. Teachers will receive a sealed envelop with
directions. All surveys will be completed online.

- Mr. Sands Update
*Confirmed that Washington DC trip is finalized. 50 students are participating.
*March 21st - 6th Grade Field Trip planned at Bird Bowl.
*March 21st - 7th Grade Field Trip. Students will go to Fort Lauderdale’s
Museum of Discovery.
*March 21st - Hoop it Up for 8th
*March 22nd – Teacher workday
*Mid-Year Civics Assessment – Analyzed by Ms. Garcia & Mr. Sands. Overall, the
students did well.
Reviewed benchmarks. Identified areas of deficiency and strategized to
improve performance for select students.
May 24th Civic EOC.

- Dr. Garcia Update
*Steam visit was cancelled (by them, not Carver). This is a virtual visit. The
new date is pending.
*Dr. Garcia is working on scheduling the 7th Grade Science Fair Parent
Orientation Night for parents that have questions about next year’s (8th
grade) science fair projects.

- Coach Daniels
*Down to our last three sports of the year - basketball (coed), tennis (coed)
and golf (tournament in April).
*Flag Football – Coach Row working on an in-house Flag Football team for this
year.
*May 17th Retirement Party for Coach Daniels 

- Foreign Language
*Student Alundra Alana recognized by Consul of Spain – for the Mi Gusta El
Espanol Contest. Will be recognized at a Consul Ceremony in April.
*French/Canadian Consul conducted a competition that was won by one of Ms.
Baltimore’s students. She has been invited along with her parents to the
Canadian Consul to be recognized and receive her award.
*Spelling Bee Award - Josphine Desmond placed 9th in the Miami Spelling Bee
competition. She made it to the 5th round. The winner made it to the 6th
round.

- Science /History
*Two students will participate in the Science Fair this year in Lakeland, FL.
These students were also nominated amongst the top 10 kids in the district for
their participation in the Broadcom Competition (former contest name); a
national award given to students that convert their science project into an
essay paper.
*Ms. Hennesey took a 6th and 8th grade team to compete in the Model UN
Competition. Both teams did very well.

- Upcoming Competitions
*Kahoot contest sponsored by Ms. Vinat. More information will be provided to
the teachers/students.
*Geography and History Bee competition scheduled for April and sponsored by Ms.
Hennessy and Dr. Garcia.
*Book Bout scheduled for March 13th and sponsored by Ms. Fletcher. A district-
level competition that entails reading and answering questions from The Epic
Fair of Auturo Zamora, by Pablo Cartaya.
Pablo is a Carver parent and internationally acclaimed author,
screenwriter, speaker and educator. His work has been featured in the NY
Times, Washington Post, NBC and Oprah’s Book Club. He has worked with
Disney, Sesame Street and Apple+.
Ms. Artime is helping prepare for competition by reviewing and analyzing
with the book with students.
