Scheduling of Blocks
The school year began with a new block rotation that was proving successful. There was a glitch due to the attendance platform currently in use. Attendance can only be taken in two selected blocks. After much discussion, the block rotation will need to be adjusted beginning next week and the first block of the day (periods 1 and 2) will not be able to rotate.

Orientation:
Orientations were scheduled the first week of schools for sixth (6th), seventh (7th) and eight(8th) grade students beginning Wednesday August 22nd accordingly. Another additional layer of safety is the requirement that school jackets be only RED or Black in color.

An after school program grant to host fifty (50) students was presented during all three orientations to the students. The program is going to be offered through the Federation of Families will run from September 16- June 3. Students will be provided with a hot meal for lunch. School Improvement Plan (SIP)
Miami Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) is now using a user friendly School Improvement plan platform. This summer a group of teachers met in Synergy and started the school improvement plan using data that was shared from the school culture and climate survey. The survey offered insight on Student Attendance which is an area heavily targeted by Mr. Fabal, success coach and Mr. Casteleiro, school social worker. The areas of Disciplinary referrals was also discussed. The report also noted the percent of students with Early Warning System indicators such as those with excessive absences, suspensions, failed ELA and Math assessments and those in Level 1. In the climate survey students expressed their concern with school safety and how they felt about their interactions with teachers. They also expressed that that the principal did a good job running the school and was visible and approachable at all times.
