Principal Updates
Ms. Cynthia Lima

PD Plan , was established in September. Teachers will have the opportunity to receive master plan points. Early Release days will be PD meeting days.

Tracking Attendance-
Counselors are contacting the student’s homes.
Ms. Sheivis sixth grade, Mr. Fabal seventh grade. Ms. Rocio Lopez our new social worker is contacting 8th grade. Sixth and seventh grade always have better attendance than 8th grade.
Since November I have been tracking attendance. March 11-14 The average for 6th grade was 15% absent, 7th grade 17% absent and 8th grade 15.4%.
Ms. Curry Coffee added that many students leave early the last block of the day. Ms. Curry Coffee added that she will speak to parents and inform them that being is class is important. Most of the time the parent will not take the student home. Other teachers are also doing the same thing.
Early Release is not tracked. It affects the students progress if the student is not in class.

Monday , April 1st there will be a dry run drill so that students can practice and be familiar with testing day procedures.
Wednesday April 3 we will have approximately 400 students testing for FSA Writing.
Teachers will be trained on testing procedures.

We have been tracking student performance since the beginning of the school year. Each department at the district level has different ways of progress monitoring for example Social Studies of a Mini Test, Science has a Unit Test, Math has a Topic Assessment. Teachers have been modifying their instruction based on those exams. ELA does not have progress monitoring they have AP1 I(I-Ready) and AP2 (I-Ready). Approximately, 70% of our students are Level 1 and Level 2. ELA teachers conduct a district writing test, teachers graded the test based on a rubric.
If students do not do their writing test they will not receive an FSA score. May 20th we will have an Algebra Camp with 63 students attending and also 5 other Middle Schools in the area will be attending.
Civics Camp, Science Camp will begin tentatively April 24. ELA, Math, dates are tentative.
We need 29 points for the a “B” school grade. We need 3 percentage points for the “B”.

Security Plan- To add to the security plan we had to add the hard corners in the classroom. When we have a drill, teachers will show the students where they have been identified and what it is used for.

Parent and Family Engagement Updates.
Overall this school year, student engagement is better. Community talk about the school is very positive.

Announcements, what ways is the school reaching out to the parents. The school website is the best way to stay informed. Our website is in ADA compliance. Ms. Lima will send a reminder to teachers if there is anything that they would like to add to the website.
Honor Roll- We had an Honor Roll breakfast that went very well. Have teachers promote the requirements to get receive Honor Roll.

Student Updates:

Saidah Brown- Students are engaging more with each other.
Ms. Lima added that every Middle School in Miami Dade County attended the Restorative Justice Practice program to train 10 students, one of our students designed the shirt that our students wore. Every school had to design their own shirt. They attended on March 9th this past weekend at the Double Tree Hotel, the idea is for those 10 students in attendance to train 10 more students at school.

Ms. Curry Coffee
8th grade Law Studies program went to Model UN Conference, it was our first year participating. On April 16 we go to Project Citizen Competition.
