Dr. Miyar mentioned that at our faculty meeting on January 5, 2021, two new EESAC teacher members were elected- Dr. Brians and Ms. Albert to replace the two EESAC teacher members Ms. Leon and Ms. Saaverdra who left the school.

Dr. Miyar mentioned that some parents, students and community members have not attended several meetings and were unexcused. To establish quorum we need attendance and as per our bylaws if a member does not attend two meetings and is unexcused they will be considered as resigned. Therefore in lieu those parents and students, two new members were selected to replace the members not in attendance. We still will need to replace other members that have not been in attendance.

On January 28, 2021, parent, Ms. Lourdes Mejias was selected to replace parent member Ms. Tracie Mc Duffie. Everyone is in agreement with this replacement.

On January 28, 2021, student, Allison Pena was selected to replace student member Nyalah Mc. Curvin.. Everyone is in agreement with this replacement.

Principal Updates:

Mr. Crespo

85 students and 8 teachers quarantined. We are in better shape with quarantine than the last time we met.

Ms. Albert mentioned that some students are going to the gas station and not wearing masks. Mr. Crespo said that those issues have been addressed with parents, but we don’t have authority off campus.

Construction- The green gated bars in front of the school will be possibly replaced. Also, the bars behind our art class and Ms. Espinal's class will be replaced as well.

There are students with inadequate progress, as a result the district provided a list of students identified. The state mandated that those students that are making inadequate progress be called to attend school physically.

36 students will be attending physically

30 students will be staying at home . Parents signed a waiver.

We are in the process of calling parents for students that have excessive absences. We are inquiring with those that have excessive absences and if they have a device or need a device. We are finding that most of them do have a personal device and claim that they are having issues logging in. Some parents have been able to address these issues with their children. Some devices have been ordered to replace broken devices.

We are ending the i-Ready AP2 diagnostic. The district has provided us with free ESSER tutoring online that is available to those students that are struggling. Ms. Martin will assist them in registration. We are in the process of organizing tutoring. Some teachers have volunteered to do that. The funds are provided from the Cares ACT. We will also begin ESOL tutoring soon and are in the process of recruiting eligible students.

We have received 197 Applications for the magnet program. Last year we had 270 applications. Although the deadline passed for parents to apply, students are still able to apply. I will be starting a campaign soon to recruit students to apply for our magnet programs.

SFACS will be moving out soon. We will have a 3rd floor available.

SIP Updates
Ms. Villazon

School Culture:
Phase III and the beginning of Phase IV. We are going back to phase I and II to see what has progressed and not progressed. In School Culture, students wanted to feel like they wanted to be part of the school more. Based on the school climate survey, there was a decrease of 12 percent of students that had previously indicated that they did not feel safe. Now students also indicated that they felt safer in the school.
The few issues that have come up have been addressed immediately.

Academics:
Students are being quarantined almost weekly; students that are labeled virtual that do not log on or are not completing assignments are being contacted by Mr. Fabal and Mr. Gutierrez.

We have Intensive Reading for levels 1 and 2.
We are offering Research and Algebra.
We are targeting tutoring virtually rather than face to face.

Our curriculum support specialist is not able to come to the school because they are covering schools that need assistance because of quarantined.

Department meetings are still taking place.

In I-Ready, 20% of our students are not completing lessons. We are going to continue pushing the completion of lessons and students passing them.

Attendance looks very different this year. We have 18% with more than 30 absences. 130 students 10 absences; 55 students 10-20 absences; 157 unengaged students. This is 24% of our students.
This is a reflection and a conversation that must be very honest.

Ms. Brooks, asked if there a percentage of students that are at home and have equipment?
Ms. Villazon replied and mentioned that right now we do not have a list of students pending devices. 67% of our students are taking virtual classes. We call parents and these parents must go to work. Many of the students are not being supervised. Teachers want to assist the students, but it is difficult when the students are not logging on.
Ms. Albert explained that Parents are at work. The students sometimes pick and choose what classes they go to.
Mr. Crespo has visited several homes of students that have been truant.
The incentive and rewards committee has been established and are working on incentives in order to motivate the students to attend school.
With the quarantine we haven’t been able to do fun activities like dances and awards.
Ms. Evelyn Rodriguez, added that some parents do not know English and might think that the student is online in front of the computer. Ms. Rodriguez mentioned that she understands the situation because she teaches college and some students also log in and don’t attend class.

Ms. Cannon mentioned that parents have received progress reports, phone calls, report cards and parents know that their children need to be in school. I have had 3 parent conferences this week and none of these parents attended.

Mr. Crespo-we want our students to succeed. But we need these kids to get on board.

Title 1 updates:
Mr. Crespo- I spoke to some department heads to know if they need anything for their departments that I can purchase with Title I money. If the teachers don’t need anything, I will purchase laptops as we no longer have classroom sets because those were distributed to the students.

Student Updates:
Nevian Brooks: Likes to be at home because he does not want to get the virus. “You need to stay home and stay safe.”

Parents/Teachers/Community Members:
Ms. Mejias is glad that she joined the meeting. She is always on top of her daughter and it was good to share ideas and keep the conversation going.

Dr. Miyar mentioned that she is looking forward to the rewards and incentives committee meeting. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday Feb 16 at 4pm

The meeting adjourned 5:05pm
