EESAC Meeting Minutes

Welcome
- Ms. Artime opened the meeting by welcoming everyone to the 2026-2027 school year and our first EESAC meeting.

Approval of Previous Minutes
- Minutes from the previous meeting were approved.

Principal's Message
- Ms. Artime started her welcome by sharing the 2026-2027 theme (United In
Purpose).
- She informed the committee that we have been identified as a "Demonstration
School" by the Magnet Schools of America. The certification process is based on the
five pillars of magnet schools and the National Magnet School Standards of
Excellence. These standards define the essential elements and characteristics of high-
quality magnet programs.
- G. W. Carver Middle School is the highest performing middle school in the Central
Region among Tier 1 schools in ELA and Mathematics.
- We have earned Gold STEAM designation.
- We are in communication with a Musical Theatre Company discussing the possibility
of offering after-school, fee-based, activities.
- We are also trying to collaborate with a Rock Band teacher with hopes of offering a
Rock Band club for interested students.
- Our students participated in the 2026-2027 club fair; giving them an opportunity to
learn about the different clubs being offered and joining a club.
- We will be hosting an Art Night on September 10th. Students will get a chance to
display their work.
- Parents and Teachers were urged to join the PTSA.
- We will host a Fathers in Education program on September 17th. There will be
activities, games, presentations, etc. to recognize the role that father's play in their
child's education.
- Administrative staff will participate in the Superintendent' s Educast on September
18th.

School Improvement Process (monitoring, implementation, and review)
- Mr. Rivers led a discussion about the 2026-2027 School Improvement Plan, which included the Areas of Focus,
Measurable Outcome, Action Steps, Evidence-Based Intervention, and Rationale.
- The committee approved the 2026-2027 SIP.
- The 2026-2027 School Improvement Process (SIP) Signature Page was reviewed and completed.
- The 2026-2027 Assurances Checklist - Verification of EESAC Compliance document was reviewed, discussed, and signed.
- The 2026-2027 EESAC Roster was reviewed; will be verified and approved by the EESAC Chair and Principal.

Old / New Business
- Mr. Sands mentioned that all employees who have direct and indirect contact with students are required to
complete a state-mandated Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Training. The training provides important information regarding human trafficking and prevention, indicators and warning signs involving students, employee responsibilities as mandated reporters, and District reporting procedures and available resources.

Announcements / Open Forum
- Mr, Sands and Ms. Vinat are planning a field trip for 7th grade students to see Kitty Hawk, a musical depicting the lives of the Wright Brothers and the invention of the airplane.

Ms. Vinat, UTD Steward
- Ms. Vinat reminded the EESAC members, particularly the adults, to carefully review upcoming legislation that will
impact public education.
- She mentioned that the referendum will be on the November ballot. The referendum supports salaries for teachers, School resource Officers, and other initiatives.
- She also urges the adults to carefully review Amendment 3; related to Homestead Exemption and property taxes.

Student Council EESAC Representatives
- Mr. Sands introduced the 2026-2027 EESAC Representatives (students).
